My invention relates to improvements in fastening devices for binding bars and similar purposes and its objectis to provide an. etticient form of fastening device, which may be directly stamped in the binding bar and which will operate to effectually secure the bi/hding cord thereto; and it consists essentially of the improvement hereinafter-hilly described in the accompanying specifications and drawings and specifically set forth in the claims. In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a binder having the binding bar formed with fastening devices in accordance with my invention. Fig; 2 is a perspective view of the bound matter when withdrawn from the binder and tied ready for permanent filing. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the binding bar. 4 is a perspective view of an alternative form of the lower binding bar, which may be conveniently used in oon1-' bination with my upper bar. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken longitudinally through the binding bars. Fig, 6 1s a sectional view alon the line 2 -2, Fig. 5. Fig. '7 is'an enlarge sectional detail of the connections between the inner edge of the binding covers, preferably by a hinge of binding cloth, which also extends to cover the bar itself as shown.

the top of the binding bar and being -first curved upwardly to extend above the binding bar and then downwardly to'extend below the surface. By this means a cord wound around the fastening device is depressed by the tongues into the slot beneath the tongues, the co-action between the tongue and the edges of theslot operating to efficiently lock the cord.

In the alternative form of binding bar shown in Fig. 4, similar fastening devices 0 and p are provided in the bottom to those in the top, and a cord is wound around those and through two open slots (1 and I provided in the edge of the bar. The material F to be bound is provided with pertoratiousf and 9 through which the cord is led. The cord is also wound through the open slots in the binding bars and then tightened by securing to the fastening devices. This will bind the material firmly in position as shown in Fig. 6.

Nhen it is desired to remove the bound material as a whole the cord is unwound from the fastening button and slipped out of the slots in the binding bars. The ends may then be tied together, as shown in Fig. 2, holding the bound material together and ready for permanent tiling.

From the foregoing description, it will be evident that I have provided a'fastening device for binding purposes, which renders the binder capable of operating with a greater degree of efficiency while at the same time, it decreases its cost of'production.

While, the particular application of the fastening device described herein, is to binding bars, yet itwill be evident that it can be applied to any similar purposes in which it is desired to removably attach a cord to a plate or bar.

\Vhat I claim as my invention is 1. In a temporary binder, a binding bar having a fastening device stamped in the top thereof integral therewith, the said las tening device including a resilient member integral with the bar and extending downwardlyinto a slot cut therein, as and for the purpose specified.

2. In a temporary binder, a binding bar having a fastening device stampedin the top thereof integral therewith, the said fasten ing device includinga plurality of divergent resilient members integral with the bar and extending below the surface thereof, as andfor the purpose specified.
