To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. WALSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indiana olis, in the county of Marion and State of In ana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Straw- Stackers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in folding pipes especially adapted for use with pneumatic stac ers of that class com osed of sections designed to be folded, an .consists in an arrangementwhereby I am enabled to swing the foldable section in any predetermined direction in relation to its adjoining section.
Folding stacker ipes as ordinarily employed are arranged) to be swung vertically where it is desired to swing a section or sections thereof over on the separator, and horizontally when desired to reduce the length of the pipe as a whole under certain conditions, as when threshing in barns, storage houses or other inclosures, where spacev is so limited as not to admit of the ordinary long stacker pipe on the separator j being swung around into position; and by the means which I employ, permitting the section to be folded either vertically, horizontally, or intermediate those positions, .such section can be folded in any desired direction, so that if space is too narrow to ermit complete horizontal movement of the olded pipe the section may be swung vertically, and, if sufficient movement can not be obtained in either of these directions, the folding section may be brought to a point between the horizontal and vertical either on the upper or lower portion ofthefixed pipe section and the most available space- 1n the inclosure thus utilized to obtain free movement of the folding pipe section.
. The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.

In the drawings the invention is shown as applied to a two-section stacker pipe, the section 10 being revolubly mounted upon the separator, andthe outer section 11 hingedly attached to said section 10. Suitable reinforcing bands, 12 and 13, the latter also constituting a hinge-band, are riveted or otherwise suitably secured to the meeting ends of the pipe sections respectively, the band 13 on the outer section 11 being provided with arms, 14, 15, one of said arms, as 15, terminating in a ratchet member. Surrounding band 12 on pipe section 1() is a rotary or swiveling ring, 16', which may be intwo parts clamped thereabout by means of lugs, 17, and screws, 18, (Fig. 2), or otherwise movably secured thereon. This ring and band 12 may be fitted to each other in any desired manner, and, as an example, I have shown (Fig. 4) the ring provided with an internal groove fitting over a flange on said band. Said ring 16 is also provided with arms, 19, 20, the latter being a ratchet member, which arms, when placed in alinement with arms 14, 15, and connected by pintle, 21, constitute a ratchet hinge, the movability whereof is controlled by a suitable locking device, such as tail-nut, 22. Collar, 23, i's preferably mounted upon the hinge pintle as indicated, which collar, together with tail-nut 22, serve to retain ratchet members 15 and 20, and also prevents the pintle from longitudinal displacement. The meeting ends of the pipe sections when brought together are secured in position by any suitable locking course, that where the material of which the pipe is composed is of sufficient thickness and y rigidity the bands 12 and 13 may be dispensed with, as it is obvious that the swiveling ring 16 may be directly mounted on the pipe and connected to a fixed hinge member on the adjoining pipe, and a suitable lug or catch provided opposite said fixed member to engage appropriate fastening means-on the ring.
The pipe sections when locked, as shown in Fig. 3, are rigidly held together, and the outer section prevented from turning. As shown in this view, the hinge' is positioned so .that section 11 may be raised and folded the opposite arms, 14, 19, and pintle 21,
forming a rigid structure for fixedly sustainingv the folded section above, along the sides, or beneath the section to which it is connected. As will be Areadily understood, when it is desired to fold section 11 in any predetermined Vposition it is only necessary to turn said section, which, being hinged to ring 16, simultaneously revolves said ring, so that if said section'is to be folded horizontally along either side of section 10, or below, or above, or intermediate such ositionsfthe hinge is moved about to the esired point, the pipe section folded back, and the lock-nut 22 tightened, causing the ratchet members to be clutched, and the section thus held securely in folded position.
I claim as my invention:
1. A folding stacker pipe composed of sections connected by a swiveling hinge, means for locking said sections in extended position, and means associated with said hinge for fxedly maintaining the swin ing section in any position to which it has een swung relatively to its supporting section.
2. The combination, in a pneumatic stacker, of a sectional pipe, means for rotating and folding a section of said pipe to an predetermined position relatively to its a joining section, and locking mechanism associated with said means for fixedly maintaining said section in such folded position.
3. The combination, in a pneumatic stacker, of a folding pipe, means for folding a section 'of said pipe to any predetermined position relatively to its adjoining section, and means associated with said folding means for iixedly maintaining said folded section in such position.
4. Tlie combination, with a pneumatic stacker, of a section al discharge pipe, a hinge connecting said sections, said hin e bein iixedly secured to one of said sections an movably mounted upon the adjoining section, and means opposite the hinge joint for fixedly engaging the meeting ends ofsaid sections and disengaging the same.
5. The combination, in a pneumatic.
stacker, of a sectional dischar e pipe comprisin a fixed section and a fozdding' section hinge ly and rotatably mounted thereon, and means vassociated with said sections for i'ixedly maintaining said folded section alongside said fixed section.
6. The combination, with a sectional pipe, of a swiveling hinge member, a hinge meinber pivotally connected thereto, and means for locking said members and preventing pivotal movement thereof.
7. The combination, in av pneumatic stacker, of a discharge pipe comprisin a fixed section, a hinged section rotatadily mounted thereon, means for locking said sections iii extended fposition, and means for locking said hinge relation to said iix'ed section. f

The combination, with a sectionalpipe, of a hinge-band fixedly connected to one of said sections, a reinforcing band fixedly connected to the adjoining section, -a swiveling ring mounted on said band, hinged members comprising ratchets connecting said hin eband and said ring, and a lock-nut for fixe y' securing said ratchet members in engagement.

of a hinge member connected to one of said sections, a ring movable mounted upon the adjoining section, a ratchet hinge connecting said band and said ring, means for locking said hinge when one section is swung to a predetermined position in relation to the other, and means for locking saidpipe sections when in extended position.
10. The combination, with a sectional pipe, of a band embodying hinge members one of which is of ratchet `form, a ring embodying hinge members corresponding to those of said band, a pintle connecting said hinge members, a stop for-limiting the movement of said pintle, and a lock-nut for maintaining said ratchet members in fi'ictional engagement.
11. The combination, with a sectional pipe, of a band provided with hinge members one of which is of ratchet form, a rin provided with hinge members correspon ing to those of said band, a pintle connecting said hinge members, means for drawing said` and ratchetv members into en agement,
