FAN ATTACHMENT FOR ROCKING-CHAIRS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1907.
Application filer February 27. 1907- Serial No. 359,619.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID JACOB STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butzbach, in the Empire. of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fan Attachments for Rocking-Chairs, of which the following is a specificationl This invention relates to a fan attachment for rocking chair by means of which the fan can be readily op erated and put out of operation.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawing, in which:
'Figure 1 is a side view of a rocking chair embodying this invention. Fig. 2 isa plan View of Fig. 1.
In this drawing the letter a designates a rocking chair of ordinary construction. To the back of this chair is fastened a bracket 1) composed of arms located over the seat of the chair. Between these arms is mounted a fan 0 adapted to be rotated as hereinafter explained.
Between therunners of the rocker is mounted a lever (1 having a joint 6 whereby the tail portion of the lever can be turned as shown in dotted lines and brought out of action when the fan is not to be operated. To the front end of this lever is fastened a string or wire f which is guided over roller g and wound on the spindle h on the axis of the fan. Another string or wire h is attached to the other end of this spindle h and is guided over another roller 9 and attached to one end of a spring '5 fastened to the chair.
When the tail of the lever is in contact with the ground as shown and the chair is rocked backward it raises the tail of lever and swings the front end downward to pull string f and rotate the fan in one direction, this action winds the string h on spindle and tensions the spring i. At the forward rock of the chair the said tail end of the lever oscillates downward to untension the spring and reverse the rotation of the fan.
What I claim is:
A combined rocker and fan, a shaft for the fan, cords or connections oppositely wound about the shaft, a spring connected to one of the cords and an actuating lever connected to the other cord, said lever having an arm pivoted to the rear end of the main part of the lever, said pivoted arm being adapted to be swung backward into line with the lever so as to rest on the floor back of the chair and to bc folded forward under the main part of the lever to be out of action, said lever being located back of the chair and mounted on a shaft on the rear portions of the runners of said chair, so that the fan will be rotated upon the backward movement of the chair by the lever and upon the forward movement by the spring.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID JACOB STEIN.
