ABEL ROSSIGNOL, OF VOIRON, FRANCE.
I PICKER-STAFF FOR WEAVING-LOOMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov: 12, 1907.
Application filed February 2. 1906. Serial No. 299,148-
horns and substantially consists in a wooden pickerstaff of suitable strength,- weight and thickness having inserted longitudinally therein a strip or strips of leather,
said leather being fastened by means of a suitable adhesive substance to the surfaces with which it is in contact. The toughness and durability of the staff against breakage are by this means considerably increased.
The invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a sideview illustrating a picker-staff with two strips of leather extending through its entire length. Fig. 2 is a. similar view illustrating a modification, in which a single strip of leather only extends through a portion of the length of the staff.
Referring to Fig. 1, the strips of leather b are placed between three strips of wood a, to which they are fastened by means of a suitable adhesive substance.
In the modification shown in Fig. 2, a longitudinal incision or slot extends from the upper end 'of the staff through a considerable portion of the length of the lat ter, but not to the lower end, a strip of leather b being inserted between the two parts a and a separated by the said incision. The leather is coated with an adhesive substance before it is inserted into the staff, and after the insertion the parts a a, which are moved apart for the purpose of the said insertion, are brought into intimate contact with the surfaces of the strip, by means of a press or other device. The picker-staff is then ready for use.
Of course a plurality of incisions or slots, containing strips of leather and extending through only a portion of the length of the staff, can be used instead of the single incision shown in Fig. 2.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A loom picker-staff consisting of a bar of wood of suitable strength, weight and thickness, slotted longitudinaily and having leather inserted and fastened in the slots for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses. I
ABEL ROSSIGNOL.
