To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WALTER R. RICH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust-Pans, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates more particularly to dustpans, crumb trays and the like, and the main object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient device which may be used from either end and in which a cover is so arranged that the device may be readily cleaned, and the particles collected entirely covered.

A further object of the invention is to provide a neat and inexpensive device which may be made entirely of sheet metal.

The invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and will then be pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of device embodying my invention. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section through the device; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

The body or receptacle 10 of the device is preferably rectangular in shape and has its sides 11 at substan tially right angles to the bottom 12, and said sides may'terminate in a rounded or beaded portion in which may be placed a stiffening wire 13. The bottom 12 is straight for a part of its length, and has an angular portion 14 forming ends which project upward so as to be substantially flush with the upper edge of the sides 11. The body or receptacle 10 thus has its ends inclined inward toward the bottom or base 12, though instead of being straight they might be curved.

For the purpose of permitting the body or receptacle 10 to be used from either end, I provide a cover 15,

which has its forward end, as at 16, pivoted to the sides 11 of the receptacle. This cover 15 may be rectangular and may have its edges made to frictionally engage the sides 11 of the receptacle. The edges of the cover may be provided with beads or rounded portions through which passes a wire 18, and this wire may serve as a pivot for the cover 15. This cover 15 has a tubular or other handle 19 formed on or secured thereto, and this handle may be of any suitable construction, and may be provided with an eye 20 to adapt it to be hung upon a hook or other supporting means. It will be seen that the cover 15 Will prevent the dust or other particles from escaping from the receptacle when brushed or forced therein, and that the said cover and handle may be swung on its pivot 16, so that the receptacle may be used from either end.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a very simple, eflicient and inexpensive device is provided which may be used at either end, and in which the particles collected may be covered at one end and the particles or dust readily removed when desired.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A dustpan comprising a substantially rectangular receptacle provided with inclined ends to adapt it to be used at either end, a rectangular cover pivoted between the sides of the receptacle and adapted to be shifted to either end of said receptacle, and a handle connected to the cover and movable therewith.

2. A dustpan comprising a receptacle provided with inclined ends to adapt it to be used at either end, a cover pivoted to the sides of the receptacle and adapted to be shifted to either end of the receptacle, and a handle connected to the cover and movable therewith.
