Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented oct. 22, 1907Y Application tiled January 2,1906. Serial Nox 294,287.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, JEAN KussLun, a subject ol' the Emperor oi Germany, und a resident ot Fr-.inkl'ortontl1e-.l\lain, (im-litany, have invented a certuiunew and uselul Improvement in Locks, oi which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a lock ol the type wherein a hox-shaped locking bolt is secured by a tumbler and the invention consists n arranging the lock so that it can be applied to doors formed with headings and more especially te folding doors. For this purpose the keeper is not screwed to one leaf oi the door or to the door jamb but is removably mounted and is formed with a tongue, which .in combination with a holder forms the part oi the loi-k into which the locking bolt is shot. The plate carrying the locking bolt is mounted on one leaf of the door and the holder on the otherI leal or on the door jainb.
ln the accompanying drawing invention Figure l shows the improved lock in locked position with part oi the locking bolt broken away. Fig. 2 is a section on the line A-B of Fig. l.
As shown, on one leali/"oi a doel' 1s screwed a plate p in which is guided the locking bolt g. Between the plate p and said bolt is the tumbler s which engages a lug cz on the plate p and secures the bolt g in locked position when the bolt o has entered the casing or keeper On the other leaf of the door or on the door zy of U-i'orm which is closed on its lower side and arra nged at the same height as and exactly opposite the locking bolt. letween the latter and the holder which is separated therefrom by the molding or beading Z on the door leaf j' may be inserted the keeper l: provided `with a projection carrying a tongue z the proiile of which corresponds to that ol the beading Li which illustrates the The method of securing the lock is as follows: On the movable leali j' is screwed the plate 7J and the locking bolt g is moved towards the right over the same. Thereupon the keeper 7c with the tongue z is slid vertically along the beading Z until the said tongue abuts against the toot ot the holder li. N ow on moving the bolt g towards the right the same enters a recess in the keeper 7; and when the tumbler s has by means of a suitable key been brought over the lug a on the plate 7o the door will be securely locked against opening. The bolt g is so formed that the fastening' screws lor the plate p are covered over7 and the tongue 2 is designed to conceal the fastening' screws on the holder L. So as to have the fastenings of the holder readily accessible the upper limb of the same is provided with suitable notches m. Since with. the lock closed the astenings are inaccessible the lock can only be burst open by force or by an authorized person provided with a key. The lock may thus be regarded as a safety lock.
Having new described my invention what I claim and desire to secure Letters Patent oi the United States is:-
The improved dooulock, comprising in combination. a locking-holt carried on one part o1' the door, a tumbler for securing said locking:` bolt, a holder attached to the other part oi' the door, and :i movable keeper adapted to engage the locking-bolt and having u tongue portion adapted to he slid into the holder and to cover the lock tastenings, as and for the purpose set forth.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence ot two subscribing witnesses.
HANS Evert, .THAN GRUND.
