WHEELBARROW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct, 15, 1907.
Application filed March 23,1907. Serial No. 364,099.
To all whomy it may concern.:
lie it known that I, Louis l". Romanzi, e citizen oi the United Sintes oi America., residing nt Beaver Falls, in the county oi lle-.wer and Stilte oi Pennsylvania, h-.tve invented neiv end useful Improvements in Wheelbsrroivs, of which. the i'ollowing is a speciliezttion,
This invention rel-.ttes to wheelberrows, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a, wheel lun-row in which the load will assist in properly balancing the barrow upon opposite sides of the Wheel.
Another object oi the invention. is to provide n. wheelbsrrow which can be quickly discharged of its contents or lend wit hout lifting the entire loud,
Still another object of the invention is to provide 2|. Wluelb-.nrow which can be used conveniently for carry ing liquid substances, mortar or other similar articles.
These and other objects may be attained by means oi the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is zi side elevation of 2l. Wheelbnrrow made in acemd-.ince with my invention. Fig. 2 is n longitudinal section through the box portion oi the borrow. Fig. 3 is s plan View oi the ,vheelbarrow. Fig. 4 is zt trimsverse Section.
Itei'erring to the drnwing for a more particular description oi my invention, the numerals 1 designate the side bars oi' the burrow [rame which tre extended to i'orm suitable handles 2. Secured to the iront ends oi the side bitrs l are depending brackets 3 in which. ure journ-.tled the axle i ol' the wheel 5. Extending across on top of the side bars l is t cross bar and underneath the side bztrs l is t cross bar 7 near the Wheel end of the barrow irztlue, und braces 8 are secured by bolts 9 to the side bars i, said braces bearing at their reztr ends against the cross bars ti. A cross ber l() is secured on top of the side bztrs l neztr the handle ends thereof` and underneath the side bars I is e cross bnr l1. A curved met-.tl box I2 is secured et its front end by means oi suitable instenings I3 to the cross bar 6,
i eross b-.n's 17.
and to the cross bar 10 by means oi suitable iastenings 14. Suitable legs are bolted, as at 1G, to the side bars 1 and extend below the bottom ofthe box 12, and extending across on opposite sides oi the legs 15 are The side members 18 oi the box 12 are provided with flanges 19 which extend over the upper edges of the side bars 1 and are connected thereto by suitable fastenings 20, and the cross bars 17 are secured to the box l2 by meansof suitable astenings 2l.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that when it is desired to discharge the load from a Wheelbsrrow made in accordance With my invention, one side oi the barrow is tipped upon one of the legs 15 until one of the brackets 3 rests upon the ground Without lifting the barrow off the ground excepting upon one side. It Will also be obvious that a. Wheelbztrrow made in accordance with my invention Will carry sui'lieient loud below the axle line as to properly balance the barrow without care on the part of the operator.
My invention is oi simple construction, can be made et comparatively slight cost, and will curry liquid substances or mortar to advantage owing to the formation oi the box 12.
Having thus described the invention. what I claim is:
1. A Wheelharrow comprising side bars. depending brackets secured to the side bars, a wheel journaled ln said brackets, cross bars connecting the side hars, legs secured to the side bars, :1 curved box secured to the cross bars, the ends of said box being secured to the legs and :1t their upper edges to the side bers. said side bars being' extended to form handles for the barrow.
2. In u wheelbarrow,A a box consisting of a curved lonA gitudinnl box member and side members, said side members being secured to the legs of the barrow, und cross bars. one at erich side of the legs, said curved member being secured to said cross bars, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS F. LORENZI.
