Description

No. 868,268. Y 'PATBNTED 00T. 15, 1907. E. R. HOLMES L L. B. JENGKES.
TAPE WINDER FOR TAPE' LOGMS. APPLIQATION FILED Maza, 1907.
-nm 6 u o 2011111 5 l-lV gage; 1- 16 15 "Kul bar 20 has extending up therefrom two lugs or projections 20, which project through the elongated slot or opening 11 in the guide 11, and has transverse pins 21 extending therethrough to hold the guide 11 in position. From the above description in connection with the drawings the operation of our improvements will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.
Through the rotation of the take-up roll 1, and the irictional engagement of the tape 8 on the winding-up roll 6 with said take-up roll, rotary motion is communicated to the winding-up roll 6 and to the cam disk 13 thereon. As the cam disk 13 rotates, its engagement with the projections or lingers 14l and 14 on the sliding arm or connector 14, will move said connector, first in one direction, and then in the other, and with it the yoke shaped pawl 17, and the engagement of th'e push 'arm 17/ of said pawl with the ratchet gear 18, when the sliding arm or connector 14 moves in one direction, will rotate said ratchet gear and with it the cam 16, and the engagement oi the other arm 17 ol the pawl 17 with the ratchet gear 18, when the sliding arm or connector 14 moves in the opposite direction, will also rotate said ratchet gear and the cam 16. The rotation of the cam 16, through its engagement with the lugs or projections 20, on the har 20, will oscillate said bar 20, and with it the guide or lever 11, at regular intervals, to move its outer end, on which is the guide strip 11, first in one direction, and then in the other, as shown by broken tape roll, a cam disk connected thereto to rotate therewith, and a rotatable cam, of a ratchet gear connected with said rotatable cam, a yoke shaped pawl for rotating saidA ratchet gear, a reciprocatingl arm carryingr said pawl, and havingl engaging surfaces operated hy saidl cam disk, a pivotally mounted tape guide, and a connection from said guide to said rotatable cam, to cause said guide to have a traverse or oscillating movement to guide the tape on to the roll.
2. In a tape winding mechanism, the combination with a tape or winding up roll, and a tape guide to `guide the tape onto the roll, of mechanism intermediate said tape roll and said tape guide, said mechanism comprising. a cam disk, a reciprocating arm operated by said cam disk, a pawl carried on said arm, a ratchet gear operated by said pawl and connected with a cam to rotate said cam, and said cam, to communicate a traverse or oscillating movement to said tape guide.
