j- .I To all whom may con mi.
Be it knownthat-IfAx ni. F. 32.0mm, "ofWorcester, Worcester @mnty; Massachusetts, have invented a} new and useful Wire Fabric, of which the following 5, is a full, clealr,'and. exact description, reference bbinghad to-the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whilch forms of my improved fabric; Figs. 4 and 5 are plan views showing another form of fabric with the two I parts separated;-Fig. 6 is a similar view showing the parts of Figs. 4 and 5 united; and Fig. 7 is a plan View of a portion of one of the fabric strips of Figs. 1 and 2.
My invention has relation to Wire fabric of that class which is used for the purpose of reinforcing concrete structures, such as floors, walls, roofs, .etc., the object being to provide a fabric of any desired width which shall have uniform strength and appearance throughout; also to provide a fabric of this kind which can be readily made upon existing machines by the addition of simple devices whereby the edges of the strips formed thereby are provided with means for securing any desired number ofstrips together side by side.
With these objects in view my invention consists in a wire fabric composed of separate strips having their edges united in thejmanner hereinafter described and claimed. 7
Referring first to Fig. 1, the numerals 2 designate the longitudinal or strand wires of strips of woven or diamond mesh wire fabric, 3 being the mesh forming wires The strand wires 2 are omitted from the adjacent edges of the two strips to be joined, and the mesh wires 3 are formed with the bends or loopsd at their ends. In joining the two strips the loops or. bends 4.
thereof are interlocked with each other as shown and a separate rod or strand 5 thereby connecting the two strips by a strand or tension member 5 preferably of the same size and strength as the strand wires 2. 7
The fabric shown in FigQZ is similar to that shown in Fig. 1, except that the bends or loops 4 corresponding to the, bends or loops 4 of Fig. 1, instead of being interlocked with each other to receive the connecting rod of strand 5* are placed adjacent to each other end to end to receive such rod.
In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the mesh-form Figures 1, 2 and fife plan views showing different.
is threaded therethrough,
ingwires 3 insteadfoibeing formed-with "spiral bends at the portions of the fabric stfips' which are to be united, are formed with" simple bends 3 which are-- hooked over the connecting rod-or strand 5".
In the fabric shown in- Figs; 4, 5 and 6, the longitu dinal' wire 2. of one oi the two strips to be united is utilized as the coupling rodor strand, and the other strip is secured thereto by-bending the ends of the meshes 3 thereo'ver in the manner shown at 6 in Fig. 6.
The advantages of myinvention' consist in the provision of a reinforcing fabric of any desired width, built'up, of narrower strips, connected in such a mannor that the fabric is of substantially uniform strength throughout and it will be understood-that the indi- 6b vidual strips are made up in continuous lengths from which portions of the desired or appropriate lengths may be cut to construct the final fabric, comprising a united series of narrow strips. Various otherways of connecting fabric sections may be employed within the scope of my invention, since What I claim is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a strip of lvoveu wire fabric made in continuous length and adapted to be,
cut into appropriate sizes having strand wires and web or F9 mesh wires connecting the strand wires, the web or mesh Wires at at least one edge of the strip being extended beyond the last strand wire at that edge in the form of free loops; substantially as described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a strip of woven wire fabric made in continuous length and adapted to be cut into appropriate sizes having strand wires and web or mesh wires coiled about and connecting the strand wires, the web or mesh wires at at least one edge offthe strip being extended beyond the last strand wire in the form of V'shaped loops having'bends or hooks at their apices; substantially as described.
3. As a new article or manufacture, a woven wire fabric, composed of a plurality of narrower sections of woven fabric placed edge to edge, each of said sections being 35 cut from a continuous strip and having strand wires and mesh wires, the mesh wires at each meeting edge being extended beyond the last strand wire of that sec tion in the form of loops whose ends are formed with integral coils or bends alined with but separable from the coils or bends of the adjacent section, and a coupling rod or Wire passed through the alined eyes or coils and connecting the sections; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
AXEL F. BACKLIN.
