B21f 27/10 U.S. Cl. 256-32 5 Clalms ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In providing fencing for residential and industrial uses it is customary to package same in the form of a roll so that the fencing may be easily shipped or otherwise transported to the destination point and then unrolled for use, or a desired portion may be cut from the roll and flattened. It is desirable that the roll have smooth reinforced selvedged ends which become the top and bottom edge portions of the fencing when the roll is unrolled and applied. Furthermore, it is desired that the fencing comprises a network or netting of wires in which the meshes have imparted thereto a certain amount of stretchability or elasticity enabling the fencing material to be stretched as it is being secured to conventional means. It is the purpose of the present invention to provide fencing with the foregoing capabilities.
SUMMARY Fencing according to a preferred embodiment; the invention comprises a plurality of spaced apart transversely arranged substantially straight wires running across the width of the fencing, and a plurality of spaced longitudinally arranged undulated or wavy wires connected to the transverse wires at substantially the apexes, crests or ridges of the undulations or waves, whereby crimps are formed between the transverse wires at substantially the longitudinal extremities of each mesh of the network formed by the joining of the transverse and longitudinal wires. One or more of the crimpy longitudinal wires are disposed at the ends or sides of the fencing providing selvedges thereat, facilitating the rolling of the fencing into a rolled package and providing finished top and bottom for the fence when completed. The wires forming the meshes are preferably provided with a plastic or other suitable coating.
It is an object of the present invention to provide meshed fencing with selvedges wherein the network or meshes and selvedges are elastic or stretchable.
A further object of the present invention is to provide stretchable meshed fencing having side selvedges as reinforcement for facilitating the same being rolled into a convenient package and unrolled flat and which selvedges also provide a reinforced top and botto-m for the product when applied to form the fence.
Various further and more specific objects, purposes, features and advantages will clearly appear from the detailed description given below taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specication and illustrates merely by way of example an ernbodiment of the device of the invention.

Like reference characters denote like parts in the several figures of the drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of a piece of meshed fencing according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a roll of meshed fencing according to the invention;
FIG. 3 is a detail section taken on line 3 3 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary view of a modified meshed fencing.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Reference will now be made to the drawing depicting an example incorporating the invention in a preferred form thereof. As seen in FIG. 1, the meshed fencing comprises a plurality of spaced apart parallelly arranged straight transverse elongated members, for example wires 10 running across the width of the fencing representing the height of the fence desired to be constructed and a plurality of spaced apart longitudinally arranged undulated of wavy elements or wires 11 connected by any suitable means such as welding, brazing, etc., to transverse wires 10 at the apexes, crests or ridges 14 of the waves or undulations 13, the crimps or depressions 12 being formed at the center points of the longitudinal wire portions or junctures of the undulations between the transverse wires 10. Thus in the embodiment depicted in FIG. 1 of the drawing the transverse wires 10 are joined to the undulated longitudinal wires 11 at the apexes 14 of the arcuate portions or waves 13 with the crimps 12 located between the transverse wires 10 at the longitudinal extremities of each mesh M, two of the wavy longitudinal wires being arranged in closer proximity at opposite sides or ends of the fencing providing reinforced selvedges at the top and bottom thereof. The wires comprising the meshed fencing are preferably provided with a plastic or other suitable protective coating.
As indicated in FIG. 2, the fencing material may be rolled up for shipment and when unrolled for use, the selvedged ends of the roll will maintain the fencing material in at condition. In building the fence, the crimps are provided in order that the fencing when stretched has a certain elasticity to allow for the stretching without damage to the meshed fencing material.
Although the construction depicted in the drawing is preferable, it is possible to secure the transverse wires at the crimped or depressed portions of the undulated longitudinal wires instead of at the apexes or crests of the curves of the waves and thus depend for the elasticity of the fencing upon the straightening tendency of the curved or arcuate portions 13 of the longitudinal wires when the fencing material is stretched as shown in FIG. 4.
While the invention has been described and illustrated with respect to certain preferred examples, it will be understood by those skilled in the art after understanding the principle of the invention, that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. Meshed fencing comprising a plurality of spaced apart parallelly arranged transversely disposed elongated wire members, a plurality of spaced apart parallelly arranged longitudinally disposed elongated undulated wire members with undulations alllying substantiallywithin the plane containing the longitudinal sides of said fencing and said longitudinally disposed members, said transversely disposed and said longitudinally disposed members, constituting a network expandable through said undulated members, said transversely disposed members being welded to said longitudinally disposed members at the crests of said undulations without being wound thereabout, and a selvedge at each longitudinal side of the fencing and substantially within said plane, said selvedge comprising at least one of said longitudinally disposed elongated undulated members.
2. Meshed fencing according to claim 1, said transversely and longitudinally disposed members having a protective coating.
3. Meshed fencing according to yclaim 2, said coating being made of plastic.
4. Meshed fencing according to claim 1, said longitudinally disposed members having crimps at the junctures of said undulations between said transversely disposed members.
5. Meshed fencing according to claim 1, and wherein said fencing comprises a roll in which said selvedges constitute end portions of said roll.
