Description
No. 867,970. PATENTED 0012.15, 190 B. c. HBDBORG.
APPLE BORING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.21. 1906.
ELLEN O. HEDBORG, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
APPLE-GORING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 15, 1907.
Application filed September 21, 1906- Serial No. 335,580.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLEN O. Hnnnone, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apple-Ooring Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide a simple,
- cheap and etficient apple coring device, and to this thin metal tube 1, one end of which is sharpened, and
to the other end of which is secured a hand piece 2, which is preferably hollow and also formed of sheet metal. In line with the axis of the tube 1, the hand piece 2 is preferably formed with the perforation 3. The tube 1 is formed with diametrically opposite longitudinally extended slots 4. Working loosely within the tube 1 is an ejecting plunger 5. A pin 6 is extended diametrically through the plunger 5 and works in the slots 4, with its ends projecting so that they may be engaged by the fingers for the purpose of moving the plunger 5 within the said tube 1.
To core the apple, the sharp end of the tube 1 is, of course, forced through the axis of the said apple so as to cut out the core thereof, and the core as it enters the tube will cause the plunger 5 to recede toward the upper end of the tube. Then when the tube is withdrawn from the cored apple, the core may be quickly and easily ejected from the tube by forcing the plungel toward the sharp end thereof. By the above operation apples may be very rapidly cored.
The perforation 3 in the handle 2 makes it possible to force water into the upper end of the tube for the purpose of cleaning the same.
The device is, as evident, of small cost; and furthermore, is eflicient for the purposes had in view.
What I claim is:
In an apple coring device, the combination with athin metal tube 1 having the longitudinal slots 4 and provided at one end with a hollow hand piece 2 formed with the perforations 3, of an ejecting plunger 5 having a flat ejecting face working loosely within said tube and provided with a diametrically extended operating pin 6 passed diametrically therethrough and working in the slots 4 of said tube and which plunger at its inner end terminates close to said pin 0, whereby when the said plunger is moved toward the open end of said tube water forced into said tube and hand piece through said opc11- ings 3 will find ready escape through said slots 4, sub stantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELLEN C. IIEDBORG. Witnesses:
Marlin Henri, F. D. MERCHANT.
