To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REGINALD E. Winn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Disk Extractors, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention is directed to improvements in bottle disk extractors and particularly to one designed for removing the conventional form of disk cap closure of milk bottles.
The invention has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which is formed from a single strip of sheet metal fashioned so that the user can conveniently place the same in operative position relative the disk cap.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which can be placed upon the cap and upon simply depressing a portion thereof cause the spur to penetrate the cap, and when pressure is released the cap will be secured to the device.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an extractor so constructed that the cap will be permanently attached thereto, whereby the extractor will constitute a handle to permit the ready removal and replacement of the cap as the milk is used, the cap being readily disengaged from the extractor after the contents of the bottle has been used.
It is a well known fact that when an attempt is made to extract the disk cap on a milk bottle with a comparatively blunt instrument, such for instance, as a fork, the disk is often buckled or warped when pressure is applied to the fork and the cap forced quickly into the bottle neck. This condition often results in splashing and loss of the contents of the bottle, and it is to overcome this defect that the present invention has been perfected.
With these and other objects in View, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combinations of ele ments, and arrangements of parts, and hereinafter to be fully described and pointed out in the appended claims.

The device consists of a single length strip of resilient sheet metal, and comprises a horizontal bar 1, said bar terminating at one end in an upwardy and outwardly curved thumb rest 2. The other end terminates in a resilient upwardly and outwardly curved arm 3, which in turn terminates in a bar 4:, said bar 41 being so bent as to pro vide finger engaging loops 5 and 6. Owing to the presence of the arm 3 the bar 4 is disposed in spaced relation with the bar 1, and resiliently connected thereto by said arm.
The bar 4: is somewhat shorter than the bar 1 and has its free end terminating in a downwardly directed shank 7, said shank being partially twisted, as at 8, so that the spur 9 carried by the lower end thereof will be disposed in parallel relation with the side edges of the bar 1. The shank 7 and spur 9 are slidable in a longitudinal slot 10 formed in the bar 1, the spur being disposed normally with its shoulders 11 flush with the lower surface of the bar 1.
In operation the bar 1 is placed upon the neck of a bottle 12 and the bar 4 moved downwardly to cause the spur 9 to penetrate the disk gap 13. After the spur has penetrated the cap and pressure is relieved upon the bar 4, the shank 7, and thus the spur 9, will move upwardly under the action of the resilient arm 3, the spur serving to impinge the cap against the under surface of the bar 1. When it is desired to remove the cap the user simply laces a thumb on the rest 2, and with the fore and second finger in the respective loops 5 and 6 pressure is exerted upon the rest 2 by the thumb whereupon the bar 1 will be moved downwardly a distance suflicient to cause the spur to pass upwardly through the slot 9, thereby forcing the disk 13 from engagement with the shoulders 11 of the spur. v
In the modified form of the invention, an elongated loop portion 14: is provided so as the same manner as in the preferred form of the invention. i
What is claimed is:
1. A disk stopper extractor comprising a pair of resiliently connected upper and lower bars a shank slidable through the lower bar and having a spur carried thereby, a
thumb engaging rest carried by the lower bar for moving said bar vertically to disengage a disk stopper from the spur.
2. A disk stopper extractor comprising a pair of resiliently connected upper and lower bars, the upper bar having a spur carried by its free end for movement through the lower bar, said lower bar terminating at its free end in a thumb engaging rest disposed in a plane substantially with the up per bar, said upper bar having finger engaging loops therein and disposed in substantially the same plane as the thumb rest.
