To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GOTTLIEB W. FROELICH, of St. Paul, Ramsey county, Minnesota, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Washing-Machine Stands, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a stand or i support for a washing machine and tub, which can be folded compactly when not in use, and hence, especially adapted for convenient transportation from place to place.

A further object is to provide a stand of extremely simple but very strong and durable construction and one that is adapted for use with tubs oi different size.

Other objects of Lthe invention will appear from the following detailed description.

The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a washing machine stand or support embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view showing the stand in its folded position. Fig. 3 is a vertical section showing the stand unfolded ready for use. Fig. 4 is a detail of the adjustable cross-bar that renders .the device adjustable for tubs of different size. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the device for pivotally connecting the washing machine to the stand. l

In the drawing I have shown rectangular irames, preferably oi channel bar iron, having end bars 2 and 3 that rest upon the ground and legs 4 and 5. A rod 6 connects the legs 4 and 5 and has a threaded end to receive av thumb nut 7 for convenience in setting up or taking down the stand. An angle bar 6/ is arranged on the rod 6 and by turning up the thumb nut the legs are firmly clamped against the ends of the bar. The legs 4 extend above the others to form the back of the stand and are connected by a bar 8 having lugs 9 and 10 wherein pins l1 are slidably mounted and provided with threaded ends to receive thumb nuts 12, the opposite ends having hooks 13 to adjustably engage the channel bar legs 4 and clamp the bar 8 iirmly thereon `at any desired height above the tub. The pins 11 between the lugs 9 and 10 form pivots whereon the arms of the washing machine are mounted and adapted to swing vertically to adjust the machine to its operative or inoperative position.

In Fig. 1 a tub and washing machine are indicated in dotted lines, the latter being in its horizontal working position. A rod 15, corresponding to the rod G above described, connects the legs 4 at a pointsubstantially opposite the upper ends of the legs 5 and is secured in position by means of a thumb nut similar to nut 7 above described. A cross-bar 16 rests upon the rod 15 and is secured to the rear ends of forwardly extending angle bars 17 that are pivoted on the rod 15 Aand are pivotally connected at their forward ends by pairs of links 18 with the upper ends of the legs 5, one flange of said legs being cut away to permit the convenient pivoting of said links on the legs and yto form stops 18 for limiting the downward movement of the links when the stand is in use. I prefer to arrange these links in pairs, as shown, with spaces between them, and a cross-bar 19 having depending ends 20 is provided to fit in between the links of each pair and form the iront of the tub platform and hold the side bars 17 rigidly against lateral movement. The bar 19 is readily adjustable toward or from the rear of the stand to adapt the device to tubs of different size.

From an examination o Fig. 3 it will be noted that the sides 5 are considerably longer below the rod 6 than the sides 4 and extend a considerable distance to the rear of the tub platform. This is for the purpose oi rendering the stand vmore stable and preventing the same rom tilting or tipping backward when a tub of clothes is supported thereon. It will also be noted that the tub platform itself formed by the bars 16 and wardly from the iront to the rear of the stand, to cause the water to flow to the back side oi the tub, beneath the washing machine, and facilitating the washing operation. The apparatus being composed of angle and channel bar iron.is very strong and durable and can be easily and quickly taken apart and folded compactly for storage or shipment.

I claim as my invention:

l. A stand for washing machines, comprising legs 4 and 5 pivoted together at points intermediate to their ends, the legs 4 being longer than the legs 5 and projecting above the upper ends of the same, a washing machine attaching means provided at the upper ends of the legs 4 and adjustable thereon, a rod 15 connecting said legs 4 on a level substantially with the upper ends of said legs 5, bars 17 pivoted at their rear ends on -said rod 15 and having pivotal connections at their forward ends with the upper ends of said legs 5 and a crossbar 19 arranged between said bars 17. l

2. A stand for Washing machines comprising legs pivotally connected together, forwardly extending side bars pivotally connected at their rear ends to two of said legs, a rear cross bar provided between the rear ends of said side bars, links pivotally connecting the forward ends of said side bars with the upper ends of the contiguous legs, and a forward cross bar supported on said links and adapted to slide toward or from said rear cross bar.

3. A stand for washing machines comprising pairs of channel bar iron legs pivotally connected, a rod connecting the opposite legs of the same pair, angle bars mounted on said rod and projecting forwardly therefrom, pairs of links connecting' the forward ends of said angle bars with the other pair of legs, and an angle bar slidably supported on said links, for the purpose specified.

4. A stand for washing machines comprising channel bar iron frames substantially U-shaped having ends 2 and 3 and legs 4 and 5, a. rod 6 connecting said legs 4 and5 19 and the parts connecting them, is inclined downand provided with an angle bar 6', a rod 15 connecting the legs 4 and having an angle bar 16 forming the rear support for the tub, a Washing machine attaching means adjustably secured to said legs-4 forwardly extending angle bars 17 pivoted on said rod 15 and pivotally connected.

5. The combination, with a washing machine stand provided withl legs 4, of a bar 8 connecting the upper ends of said legs and provided with lugs 9 and 10 near each end, pins 11 loosely mounted in said lugs and having thumb nuts on one end and hooks on their opposite ends to engage the legs 4, said pins. forming pivots for washing machine arms, substantially as described.

6. A standv for washing machines comprising forward and' rear legs pivoted' on one another, forwardly extending side bars pivotally connected at their forward' and rear ends to said legs respectively, forward and rear cross bars connecting the corresponding ends of said side bars, said rear legs projecting above the top of said forward legs and a bar 8 provided between the upper ends of the rear legs, aud means adjustably securing the said bar S to said rear legs, and said bar S forming an attaching means for :L washing machine to said stand, substantially as described.

7. A stand for washing machines, comprising legs pivotally connected together', and forwardly extending side bars and cross bars connecting said side bars, a, bar S connecting the opposite sides, of a pair of said logs at thel rear of the stand, and havingr lugs 9 and lt), and pins ll slidably mounted in said lugs and having means for engaging said' legs and adjustably securing said har thereon, substantially as described.
