Description

Nmasmass. -PATENTED SEPT.24,1907.
APPLIoATIoN FILED un 55555 e.
A TT OHNE YS ANDREW JAMES WILSON, OF TONGPAH, NEVADA.
SASH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 24. 1907.
Application filed May 5, 1906. Serial No. 315,370.
To all "whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW JAMES WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tonopah, in the county of Nye and State of Nevada, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Holders, of ,whichA the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sash fasteners and more particularly to automatic fasteners adapted to be secured to the window frame; the object being to provide a fastener which is so constructed that the window can be raised and held in any position desired.
Another object of my invention is to provide means for lifting the locking'member up out of engagement with the window sash and means for locking the member in engagement with the sash.
With'these various objects in view, the invention consists in the employment of a wedge-shaped casing adapted to be secured in a recess in the window frame, said casing being providedwith a spring actuated locking member adapted to engage the sash, and an arm arranged in the casing, adapted to engage said locking member, connected to a knob, for the purpose of raising said locking member.
This invention consistsalso o1 the novel features of construction, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part oi this specification:- Figure l is an elevation of a portion of a window frame, and sash partly broken away showing my improved fastener in place. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional vi ew cf my improvedfastener. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the fastener taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the locking member detached.
In Vthe drawing A indicates the window sash and B, the window'frame which is provided with a recess B, in which is arranged a wedge-shaped casing C, provided with flanged apertured ends Of, through which screws are adapted to pass and securely lock the casing in the recess. A locking member consisting of a wedge shaped frame D, provided with a corrugated edge D, is arranged` in said casing adapted to be held into engagement with the window sash by a coiled-spring E, carried by an apertured lug D2, of the frame D, and passing out through a slot D3, in the frame having its end adjustably secured in an opening C2, of the casing by a pin Ef. The. frame is provided with a cross bar D4, adjacent its upper end having a rack portion D", formed on its upper edge for the purpose hereinafter described.
The window frame is provided 4with an opening leading into the recess B, and communicating with the opening C4, formed in the casing C, in which is mounted a square shaft F, provided with a knob Ff, which rests up against an escutcheon plate G, secured to the frame around the opening extending into the recess.
An arm H, provided with an enlarged portion I-VI, having a square opening, is mounted on the shaft F, and is provided with an inwardly projecting end H2, adapted to extend into the frame between the cross bar D4, and upper reduced member D6, so that the locking member can be lifted or locked in the casing as desired by turning the knob F. A washer I, is mounted on the shaft F, between the reduced member D6, and the'casing so that the arm will be held in place. y
From the foregoing description, it will be understood that a fastener is to be secured in the frame for each of the sashes and that the length of the shaft will vary according to which fastener it is connected to. It will also be readily seen that the fastener can be secured in the sash with the same results.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a sash fastener, the combination with a Wedgeshaped lframe mounted in said casing provided with a cross-bar having a rack portion and an arm mounted in the casing provided with an angled end extending between the cross-bar and upper reduced portion of the frame, adapted to engage said rack portion and reduced portion, for the purpose described.
2. In a sash fastener, the combination with a Wedge shaped casing of a spring actuated wedge shaped frame moupnted in said casing provided with a cross bar provided with a rack portion and an arm mounted in the casing provided with an angled end adapted to engage said rack portion for locking said Wedge shaped frame for the purpose described.
3. In a sash fastener, the combination with a wedgeshaped casing, of a spring actuated wedge'shaped member arranged in said casing, provided with a cross-bar having a rack portion, a shaft extending through saidcasing pro vided with a knob and an arm mounted upon said shaft adapted to engage said rack portion.
ANDRE\V JAMES WILSON.
