To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, FRANKLIN H. BowLY, a. citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Producing Alcohol, of which the following is a. specificatiou. V v
This invention relates to apparatus for producing alcohol by synthetic process, already known, and one of the plrincipal objects of the same is to provide an apparatus of comparatively simple construction, by means of which such-alcohol may be produced at slight cost.
Another object of theinvention is to provide on apparatus which is capable of rapid operation for-producing alcohol from acetylene gee, hydrogen and sub iuric acid by properi y combining the gas and hydrogen and submitting the some to the absorbing action of the acid to which water (about 33%) is then added and then distilling the compound, and condensing the vapor arising from the still.

The operation of my invention may be briefly de- 7 scribed as fol lows: Calcium. cerbid is placed in the cae ing 1 and water is started through the pipe 3 to generate acetylene gas. Hydrogen in then injected into the gem orator through the pipe 1 thus converting the nascent acetylene gas into ethylene. The sulfuric acid is recovered through the cock or faucet 24 to be again used in the drum 10.
From the foregoing it will he understood that the thus readily combines with the hydrogen.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is: 1. 3. In an apparatus of the character described, it generator, a drum provided with interior-shelves, a hollow shaft leading from the generator to the drum, means for rotating said drum, :1 still, connections between the drum and still, a pipe rising from the still, a flaring condenser surrounding said pipe, and a discharge faucet at the lower portion of said condenser.
