PATENT ori-non.
UNITEDSTATES y .IACOB O. M. SEIBERT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO LOUIS E. PFAADT,
- i OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TICKET HOLDER AND CUTTER.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JACOB O. M. SEIBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ticket Holders and Cutters', of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to devices for use in holding and cutting tickets.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a device useful for holding combination train checks and fare records, in order that train conductors may conveniently keep a record of cash fares and supply passengers with train checks in return for fares paid upon the train.
The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodi ment in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a side elevational view of my holder and cutter, the holder being in book form with one of the cover-sections lifted partially; Fig. 2, a view with one oi the cover-sections removed and the back of the book shown in section; Fig. 3, a sectional view of a cutter-slide employed, the section being taken as indicated at line 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a broken transverse section taken as indicated at line 4 oi Fig. 2; Fig. 5, a section of the back of the book taken as indicated at line 5 of Fig. 2,; Fig. 6, a view of one of the records remaining in the book after the train-check has been severed; and Fig. 7, a view of a train-check severed from the combination fare record and train check.
In the construction shown, A represents the backend oi a book, said back-end comprising jaws a., 0r1 joined by a pivot a2 and secured against accidental opening by a catch a3 of well known construction, the jaw al being equipped with hooks a4; B, a lower coversection joined by a hinge b to the jaw al; B1, an upper cover-section joined by a hinge b1 to the jaw a; and C, a longitudinal movable cutter-slide mounted on a transversely movable slide C1 pivotally and slidably mounted upon a transverse rod C2 carried by arms c equipped with pivots c1 connected with eyes c2 with which the Irce end of the cover-section B is equipped.
The back A and the cover-sections may be formed of aluminium. The rod C2, the arms c and the pivots cl may be integrally formed by bending a rod into U iorm and bending the extremities inwardly to form the piyots. The cutter-slide C has a longitudinal cutting edge c3, an oblique cutting edge c4, and a longitudinal cutting edge c5. The member C has a longitudinal slot c6 which has connection with the slide C1. The slide C1 comprises alower member c7 equipped with a transverse pivotal sleeve a8; and an upper member e9 joined to the lower member by screws cw. When Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 27, 1907.
Application filed Tune 7, 1906. Serial No. 320,675.
the parts are joined together, the slide has a portion which ts within the slot c6 and flanges above and below the plate of which the member C is formed. By means of the screws C10 theconnection may be made as close as may be desired to prevent accidental movement of the member C. As best shown in Fig. 4, the member C is preferably formed of sheet-metal stamped upwardly to accommodate the slide C1, the edges of the member being stamped downwardly to rest upon the ticket.
The book, constituted as described, is filled with combination fare records and train checks D comprising suitably printed cards having periorations d which iit over the impaling hooks a4. In Figs. 6 and 7, one of the combination fare records and train checks is shown divided into a portion d1 constituting a fare record, and a portion d2 constituting a train check.
lt is obvious that the cutter-slide C may be adjusted to cut out a check of zig-zag form shown in Fig. 7, the card being severed along appropriate lines to indicate on the train check the stations between which the check is good.
Obviously, the double pivotal connection between the cutter-slide and the free edge of the cover-section B serves the purpose of permitting the cutter-slide to rest flat upon the cards, regardless of the thickness of the book.
It will be understood that the fare records are retained in the book until the book is exhausted, when the records can be removed`by opening the jaws a, al.
The device has been described in detail for clearness of understanding, and no undue limitation is to be understood therefrom. i
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination of a cardholder, and a cutter 1ongitudinally and transversely slidable with relation thereto.
2. The combination with a card-holder, of a longitudinally and transversely shiftable slide having double pivotal connection therewith.
3. The combination of a card-holder, a member having pivotal connection therewith and equipped at a distance from said pivotal connection with a pivot-portion, and a slide pivotally and adjustably connected with said pivot4 portion.
4. The combination of a card-holder, a rod having arms pivotally connected with said holder', a slide shiftable on said rod, and a cutter-slide longitudinally adjustable on said first-named slide.
5. The combination of a book-form holder equipped at one end with card-holding means,. a member pivotally connected with the free end of a cover-section of said holder, and a cutter-slide adjustably connected with said member.
6. The combination of a holder comprising a pair of jaws, one of said jaws equipped with hooks, a cover-section joined to one of said jaws, a member pivotally conedges of said jaws, a rod having arms pivotally connectedA with the free end of one of said cover-sections, a. slide shiftably and pivotally mounted on said rod, and a cutter- 10 slide longitudinally movable on said first-named slide.
8` The combination with a card-holder, of a rod having arms pivotally. connected' therewith, andv an adjustable cutter-slide plvotally connected with said rod, said cutterslide having longitudinal cutting edges and an oblique cutting edge joining said longitudinal cutting edges. 15
