IGB WASHER. APPLIOATION FILED 00124, 1906.
THE NORR'IS Pan-R; co., WASHINGTON, n. c.
PATENTED AUG. 2Q, 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DENNIS DONAHOE, OF SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DENNIS D the United States of America, res in the county of Minnehaha and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ice- Washers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an ice washing attachment for icp delivery wagons, the object of the invention being to provide an attachment oi this character which is arranged so as to not consume any of the ice-containing space and is designed to form a which the pieces of ice may be cl to the customer.
A further object is to provide an attachment having a flexible discharge hose or nozzle and means for supportas to cut ofi the flow of water without the use of valves or equivalent devices.
The accompanying drawing shows a side elevation of an ice delivery wagon embodying my invention, a porbeing broken away to ing the same in such a manner tion of the body of the wagon show the storage tank.
In the drawing, 1 des'gnates an ice delivery wagon of ordinary construction, which is provided at the forward end thereof with a seat box 2 in which is arranged a tank or reservoir 3 containing a supply of water.
Extending downwardly from the bottom of the tank is an outlet pipe 4 communicating with a delivery pipe 5. The pipe 5 is arranged below the body of the wagon and is suitably supported by the run i g g ar and terminates at its rear end adjacent the hanger of the rear step 6.
To the rear end of the pipe 5 is connected one end of a flexible discharge nozzle or hose 7, is adapted to be hung upon a hook 8 arranged upon one side of the wagon body at an elevation above the level oi the water in the tank 2. Normally the nozzle is arranged as shown in the drawing with its free end sup- ONAHOE, a citizen of convenient means by eansed before delivery ICE-WASHER.

ported by the hook- 8, whereby, as the discharge end of the nozzle is arranged above the level of the water, the
discharge of water therethrough is cut off. In order to 40 wash a piece of ice which is to be delivered to a customer it is simply necessary to liit the nozzle out of engagement with the hook 8 and turn it down to the dotted line position, whereby the discharge end oi the nozzle will be brought below the level oi the water in the tank, and the water will flow therefrom and may be discharged upon the ice to remove sawdust and other refiding at Sioux Falls,

Patented Aug. 20, 1907.
It will be seen that the device provides a convenientice washing attachment for ice wagons which takes up none oi the ice storage space and by which the operation of washing pieces of ice may be quickly and conveniently performed without loss of time, as the necessity of opening and closing valves to regulate the flow of water is entirely obviated. This is a desideratum in devices of this character in the delivery of ice in thickly settled districts where a large number of pieces are sold.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed An ice delivery wagon having a seat box, a water storage tank arranged within said box, a conducting pipe arranged below the body of the wagon and supported by the running gear, said pipe having an upwardly extending inlet projecting through the body of the wagon into the body of the tank and extending therefrom rearwardly to one side of the rear end of the body, a flexible hose or nozzle connected to the rear end of the pipe, and means upon one side of the rear end of the wagon body to support the free end of the hose or nozzle above th In testimony whereof, I aifix my signature in presence DENNIS DONAHOE.
