Description
FAUCET.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, Gsouen Wasnme'ror: Tmnnnv, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of Marshfield, in the county-o Coos and State oi Oregon. have -im-'ented n new and Improved Faucet, of .which the iolv lowing is a specification.
y The invention relates to turning-plug faucets, and has for its object; a peculiar, simple and inexpensive faucet adopted or gener-al use, but/more particularly intended for use in drawing beer or other liquids from barrels, kegs, etc.' l I'he invention consists of the specially constructed faucet shown by the accompanying drawing, and hereinafter describedin detail, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure l'is a. longitudinal sectional view of my improved faucet-stock. Fig. 2 is a similar view nt the stock, showing a novel form of cut-off plug ,l employed therewith. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on lino 3 3 of-Fig. 2 with the plug shown turned to open position, und Fig. 4 is a similar sectional i. view with theplug shown turned to closing position.
In the practice of my invention I employ a wooden stock A, constructed with a transverse opening B there- I 25 through near one end of tho stock as shown.
C denotes a passageway fr opening extending longitudinally through the stock, from its transverse opening B to one end oi the stock, thus providing an open pas` aageway therethrough for the purpose understood.
In constructing the transverse opening B through the stock I preferably fashion 'same into tapering form from a point D, above open communication therewith, of the passageway C :forming a sat D and leaving a reduced discharge opening E on the under sido of the stock. The upper portion of the opening B, from D to E, is rendered cylindrical; in other words fashioned into uniform bore F,vas shown by Fig. 1.
G denotes a novel form of turning plug forming a part of nxy invention. The plug is constructed with a tapering shank E, a linger grip Land an enlarged inwardly tapering head I. I'he plug-shank is provided with screw-thread -Kgranging imm its point to the tapering head I at its upper end1 and it is also provided with a longitudinalV cutaway portion L adapted when the l plugisarranged in place to .leave a passage-way leading .from s point in the opcning'lF'just above the opening thereinto, ofV the longitudinal passage-way C.
Speeication of Letters Patent. l
Application Eleni August 1,'1906. Serial No. 328,749.
. GEORGE WASHINGTON f rnrnnnr, or rmnsnrrnLD, oREGoN.
Patented Aug. ao, 1907.
It is designed to form the' transverse opening F adapted to have the screw-thread K, on the plug II cut into the stock forming a screw-threaded .socket of the opening F, thereby providing n liquid tight joint seating of the plug in the opening F at all adjustmentsoi the plug save when the latter .is turned adjusting its cutaway side L into position coinciding, ornext to the adjacent end opening of the longitudinal passage-way Q leading to the opposite end of the stock.
The. construction of my improved faucet will be understood from the above description.
' .l'he leading idea underlying invention is the provision oi a faucet nf such inexpensive manufacture that one thereof may be furnished with each barrel or keg of liquid sold without necessity of charge therefor to the customer.
I would particularly call attention to the peculiar form o the transverse opening F through the stock and the tapering screw-threaded plug II, cutaway at L and provided with an enlarged head J'.
It isapparent that the tapering lower portion D of the I opening B through the stoekwill insure liquid tight litting of the plug, even alter prolonged use thereof, and also that when the plug is screwed down with its head J bearing against the stock, that further entrance of the plug thereinto is checked resulting in wedging engagement of the screw-threads on the plug with the woody fibers of the stock.
I do not confine myself to the precise construction of the opening B, shown :md described since the same may be modified without departing from. the spirit oi my invention.
I claim- A faucet comprising at wooden stock. the stock being constructed with transverse and longltmllnnl openings,
the transverse opening being extended through the stock. und the longitudinal opening;l being extended lrom the inner ond of the stock, to the transverse opening, provid im.: free passage-way thereinto, the transverse opening helm.' made taper-lng: from n. point above the plane of sold longitudinal opening, to a reduced discharge openlng at its lower Hilbrand n tnpered screw-threudcdplug, constructed with n cutaway slde forming n longitudinal groove thereln. the screw-thrend on the plug being adapted to cut Into the body nt the stock, when the plug ls Inserted into nld transverse opening.
