EMANUEL GARNIER, OF STOCKPORT, ENGLAND.
APPARATUS FOR BLOCKIN G HATS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application led May 18,1907. Serial No. 374,512.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMANUEL GARNER, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and residing at 196 Turncroft Lane, Stockport, in the county of Chester, England, have invented new and useful Improved Apparatus for Blocking Hat-Bodies Made oi Felt, Straw, or the Like, oi which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improved apparatus for blocking hat bodies of any suitable material.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my said invention, and to which I hereinafter refer, Figure l is a side view, Fig. 2 a plan and Fig. 3 an end elevation oi apparatus constructed according to this my said invention as seen when not in work. Fig. 4 is a side view of the same apparatus in operation. In these views the saine letters refer to like parts.
According to my invention I propose to use hydraulic pressure for this purpose. The wooden block a for the hat body is iixed on a metal plate b carried at the top of the rain c of the press which works through a stuilng box d placed at the top of the hydraulic cylinder e. The hollow metal dish f for the hat is attached to a top frame as g which is supported by columns or brackets as g and g2 above the center of the ram either as shown or in any convenient manner.
The hat body to be blocked is placed upright on the wooden block a and a ring j of india rubber of suitable thickness is placed above the brim, water under pressure is then admitted into the cylinder e causing the ram to rise and press the hat bo'dy`into the interior of the hollow metal dishf which is fixed above the wooden block a as before described. When the hat body has remained thus under pressure for the requisite time the head of water is allowed to escape and the ram with the wooden block and pressed hat body will descend to its former position, so that the pressed hat body can be removed frein the wooden block, and a fresh hat body substituted and treated in a like manner.
I may in some cases prefer to construct the apparatus with the ram placed above the hat body, and the blocking device inverted which would obviously be the same invention.
I claim as my invention Au improved apparatus for blocking hat bodies, comprising a hydraulic ram o, a block rl for the hat body fixed on a metal plate on the end of the ramy a ring of india rubber and a hollow metal dish 7' attached to a frame g, all substantially as hereinbefore described and shown on the accompanying drawings.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing` witnesses.
EMANUEL GARNIER.
