IMPROVED/EEK! IN WAGONS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making gm of the lame.
To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat- I, JAMES H. SAW VYER, of Troy, in the county of Bradford, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the, letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a view of my invention as applied to the front axle of a wheeled vehicle, and

The nature of my invention consists in the employment of metal frames secured to the under side, and projecting a short distance from each side of the bolster, and provided with. rollers which travel on a circular bar or rail secured to the hounds of the axle, substantially as hereinafter described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use myv invention, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings- A represents the axle upon which are secured the hounds B.
0 represents a bar placed parallel with the axle, and fastened to the hounds B.
D designates a circular metal bar or rail having its ends bent downwards at right angles, and entering the outer ends of the hounds, the inner portion of the bar being secured to the bounds by means of braces or bolts.
F represents the bolster secured to the axle by means of a king-bolt, I).
G designates the metal roller-frames, made, as seen in fig. 2, andfurnished or formed on its upper side at the centre, with a lateral metal strip or plate, a, by
means of which the frame G is secured to the under side of thebolster.
These frames are secured to the bolster so that their ends will project out from each side of the bolster, a short distance, in order to prevent it from careening, which I claim as an advantage due to my invention.
Within these frames are pivoted friction-rollers g g, which travel on the circular rail D.
Some of the advantages of my device are- First, it equalizes the strain on the axle-tree and wheels;
Second, it prevents the tongue of the vehicle from having a sudden,jerking motion while passing over obstructions, which is very injurious to horses;
Third, it enables the loadon the-wagon to be drawn steadily; and prevents it from rocking while passing along or-on the side of a hill;
Fourth, by the use of two sets of rollers and frames, the strain on the circle will be greatly diminished when the vehicle is in the act of turning; and
Lastly, it will lessen the draught of the vehicle, in case one of the forward wheels drops into a rut, by
equalizing the strain on both wheels.
I am aware of the existence of the patent of J Lawrence, dated December 10, 1867, and therefore do not claim anything contained therein; but
