To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, Gnoaon' Pncovnn, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county oi El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Nozzles, oi which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hose -'noz-- zles, and refers to a nozzle particularly adapted forspraying purposes.
One object of the invention is the provision of a'hose nozzle which maybe applied to any ordinary hose icoupling, and may be adjusted to throw a stream of water in the form of a spray, in any direction or at any angle desired.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a device for the purpose stated, provided with means for handling so that it mayreadily be carried from place to place, and which may quickly be secured in the desired location so as to project. the stream of water in the proper place. I l
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists of a nozzle, 'the bore of which is rectangular in cross section and tapering toward the small end of the nozzle, a paddle or deflecting plate pivotally secured to the nozzle, an eccentric collar mounted on the nozzle and engaging the inner end of the plate, a handle secured to the nozzle, and a point or spike adaptedfor entering the ground.

The base ofvthe nozzle is formed with the customary screw threads 3, adapting it to be applied to an ordinaryhose coupling of standard size.
On one side of the nozzle is formed a pair oiears 4,
having an opening 5, therein. The paddle or deflector plate 6, is provided on one face with a lug 7, which is pivotally secured between the ears 4, by means of the pin 8. The outer end of the plate extends beyond the end of the nozzle so as to'be' in the'path of the stream issuing therefrom. Upon the nozzle about midway its length, are formed a pair of annular ringsi), between which is rotatably mounted, the eccentric ring or collar 10. A spring 11, jon the deflector, presses against the nozzle and causes the inner extended end of the dcflector to engage the eccentric ring 10, and by turning this ring, the angle at which the stream is deflected,
may be regulated with ease. The eccentric collar is formed in two parts which are pivotally connected together at 12, and at theoppositc point, the members are secured by having a spring tongue 13, formed on one of the members, engage a complementary recess l.4,-formed in the other member. By means of this construction, the eccentric ring may be entirely removed from the nozzle if desired.
In order to readily handle the nozzle, 1 provide a I bar or red 15, having the handle or grasping portion 16, mounted thereon. At the front end, this bar 'is provided with a loop 17 adapted to fit over the end of the nozzle. At the rear of the handle portion, thebar is bent downwardly and formed with a rounded portion 2 18, adapted to partially embrace the nozzle, and a semi-circular clasp l9, is pivoted to the bar at 20, and
at the other end is secured to the bar, by thebolt fastening 21, thereby securely fastening the handle to the nozzle. The lowerlcnd of the bar is pointed as at 22,
so that it may be driven into the ground, and an annular ring 23, is formed on the nozzle at the point where the bar encircles it, to further secure the bar against displacement. A washer or gasket may be secured in the nozzle/at the base of the threaded portion to prevent leakage.
The jet of water leaves the nozzle with great force and being of rectangular form, it is readily deflected by the paddle and sprayed on the desired place'without much waste in other directions. 1
By means of the handle, the nozzle may be readily transported about and anchored by inserting the spike in the ground, and by rotating the eccentric collar, the
desired amount of inclination or spray may be obtained. From this description taken in connection with the drawings, it will be evident that I have accomplished all. the objects herein set iorth, and have provided a practical spraying device which is simple-in construction and eflicient in operation.
I claim: 1.
