ADELIA ROSS, OF POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK.
SAFETY TICKET-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1907.
Y Application filed NOVembr 6, 1906. Serial No. 342,274.
Toall 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADELIA Ross, a citizen oi the United States of America, residing at Poughkeepsie, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Ticket-Boxes, of which the following is a speciiication.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple safety box or retainer for milk, ice or other tradesmens tickets, whereby they are kept clean, and protected from being stolen. l
My invention as herein described and illustrated, shows the invention as applied to holding milk tickets.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part and in which the separate parts oi the invention are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure, 1. is an elevation, showing the front. Fig., 2. is a sectional view on the line A-B of Fig., 1. Fig. ,3. is Fig. 5, shows a vertical section ot tube 6. Fig. 6, shows a horizontal section of tubes 5, and 6.
In the drawingsz-l, designates a metal box or case formed of two tubes or cylinders 5, and 6, securely joined together, side by side by the rib 2, and the top plate 3, and the bottom plate 4. Tube 5, is provided near its top with a door 6, hinged to it at one end, and formed at the other end with a slotted lug '7, secured over the staple 8, by a padlock. Below said door in the face of said tube is cut a vertical slot 9, by the side oi which is marked off a scale of numbers. Contained in said tube is a spiral spring 10, surmounted by a cap 11, which is provided with a stud 12, extending through the slot 10, and to which is secured the pointer 13. The other tube 6, is divided into two compartments 1,5 and 16, and is provided with two doors 15, and 16, both secured in the same manner as the door 6, in tubel 5. The back oi said case or box is formed with the loop 17, at its top, by which said case may be hung upon the hook '1.8, which is secured to the side of the 'house or other object that itis desired to secure the case to. i Hinged to the side ofthe tube 5, is one end of the rod 19, while the other end of said rod is formed into a hook to engage the eyel 20, on the opposite side of tube 6.
In the top 3, over tube 5, is cut the slot 2l.
The tickets 22, are formed of metal or other suitable material and are provided with a round hole 23 near the edge. These tickets may have any lettering desired, either stamped or embossed thereon.
The operation oi the device is as followsz--The desired quantity of tickets is placed by the tradesman in compartment 15 of which both he and the customer have keys. The customer then transfers them to compartment 16 of which he only has a key. Ihen as the customer desires to use them, he takes from compartu ment 16 the required number for the purchase and places or strings them on the rod 19, by the holes in said tickets. Then as the tradesinan `delivers the goods called for by said tickets, he detaches them from the rod and drops them through the slot 21, into the tube 5, of which he only has a key. As the tickets drop upon the cap 11, their weight depresses the spring 10, lowering the pointer 13, and registering by thescale the quantity of tickets used. Other tickets may be provided upon which may bemarked any message that the customer desires to give the tradesinan, such as Tickets wanted. These the customer hangs upon the rod, and when the tradesman has received the message he replaces them in compartment l5. Thus it will be seen that this invention may beput to a number of uses, and by the arrangement of locking the compartments there can be no dishonesty on .the part of either the tradesnian or the customer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the class described, consisting of a duplex tubular case provided with doors, and means for hanging said case upon a yhook or nail, a curved rod hinged to one side of said case and secured by an eye on the opposite side of said case substantially as described.
` 2. In a device of the class described, consisting of a case, provided with doors, a hinged curved rod, and circular embossed and punched checks for use with said case.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADELIA ROSS.
