To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. DANIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bessemer, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Fireplaces, of which the following is a specification.

This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in attachments for open fire places, and the invention has for its object an improved construction of swinging bracket adapted to hold pans, boilers, or other culinary vessels over the fire within the bracket grate or the like, said bracket being mounted for removable attachment to or support upon the grate, in a manner hereinafter specifically described.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the head of my improved bracket or holder, said head in the present instance being of disk form and with a spider or web-like construction forming a series of flaring, radially extending spaces 1", as shown. Mounted to revolve concentrically with the head 1 and secured underneath the same is a regulator disk 2 which is similarly provided with spaces 2 and a handle 2'. By turning the disk 2, the spaces 1 of the head 1 may be opened to their full extent or entirely closed, or partially so, so as 'to permit the flame from the fire to obtain more or less contact with the bottom of the pot or other vessel supported on the head.

Integrally formed with the head 1 is a stem 3 which lies in the same plane as the head and which is provided at its extremity with a downwardly extending stud 4. The base of the stem 3 is thickened as indicated at 5 and is provided with a recess 5. In this recess is fitted the laterally extending flared end 6 of an obliquely extending brace 7, the said end being secured to the same by means of a screw 8 or similar fastening means. The lower end of the brace 7 is provided with a downwardly facing stud 9 in alinement with the stud 4. The support for the swinging bracket embodies a triangular frame 10 comprising the vertical bar 11, the horizontal bar l2 and the inclined bar 13, and downwardly facing hooks l4 projecting inwardly from the upper ends of the frame, being secured thereto, and are I adapted to take over the top bar of the basket or other form of grate, so as to removably suspend the frame therefrom. In order to securely hold the frame 10 on the grate, I provide a turn button 15 which is held by a clamping nut 16, extending through any one of a vertically extending series of openings 17 formed in the vertical bar 11. In attaching the device, the turn button is swung to a horizontal position so that it may pass between two grate bars, and is then swung to a vertical position so as to engage the rear faces of the bars. The several openings 17 are provided so that the turn button may be raised or lowered according to the requirements of different grates. i

The vertical bar 11 of the frame 10 is formed with an outstanding car 18 elevated above its hook 14, and the lower end of the bar is turned outwardly, or is otherwise formed to provide another ear 19 in vertical alinement with the ear 18. These two ears are formed with apertures as shown, adapted to receive the studs 4 and 9 so as to mount the holder in a manner to swing in a horizontal plane rearwardly over the fire or outwardly from the grate. I

From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that .I have provided a very simple construction of swinging bracket for open fire places, which may be readily attached or detached from the grate and conveniently used as a means for holding any desired vessel in proper relation to the fire.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A swinging bracket of the character described con sisting of a head and a stem projected therefrom, the stem being thickened near its juncture with the head and formed at its extremity with a downwardly extending stud,

-a diagonally extending brace provided at its upper end with a laterally extending flaring portion fitting in said recess and secured to said stem, the opposite end of said brace being formed with a downwardly extending stud, and a support provided with ears in which said studs are pivotally mounted.

2. A swinging bracket of the character described, consisting of a head and a stem projected therefrom, the stem being thickened near its-juncture with the head and provided in its lower face with a recess, said stem being with a downwardly extending stud, a diagonally extending brace provided at its upper end with a laterally extending flaring portion fitting in said recess and secured to said stem, the opposite end of said brace being formed with a downwardly extending stud, and a support adapted to be secured to a grate frame and provided at its upper and lower ends with apertured ears in which said studs are pivotally mounted.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination ofa head, a support in which said head is mounted to swing about a vertical axis, said head being formed with openings, and a regulator disk mounted to revolve concenfasnsa aw r tricaiiy of the head, and secured thereto and adapted to extend over said openings.

4. A device of the character described, consisting of a head adapted to hold a culinary utensil, and provided with a stem and a brace, the stem and brace being formed with downwardly extending studs, a frame provided with outstanding apertured ears adapted to receive said studs, the frame being provided with downwardly facing hooks adapted to take over the top bar of a grate, and a turn button mounted on said frame and adapted to lie against 10 the bars of the grate whereby to lock the frame to the grate.
