DEVICE FOR FASTENING HEADS TO BUSTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application filed April 4, 1907. Serial No. 366,356.
. To all 1071/0777 it 7nct7 concern.-
Be it known that I, EMIL T. PALMENBERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, (borough of Manhattan,) in the county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Device for Fastening Heads to Busts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to display forms and its object is to provide a new and improved device for conveniently, quickly and securely fastening the head to the bust of a display form without danger of disfiguring the external appearance of the head or bust.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying dra vings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improve ment as applied, part of the head and bust being shown in section, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improvement.
The bust A of a display form is provided with an inclined top B, on which is seated the lower edge of the neck C for a head C, made of wax or a like suitable material, and made hollow, as indicated in Fig. 1. Within the hollow head C and its integral neck C is arranged a frame consisting of a post D having a brace D, and on the upper end of the said post D is secured a bridle E of rubber or other suitable elastic material, the bridle E being provided at its lower end with a loop F adapted to be hooked onto a keeper G secured to the top B of the bust form A. The loop F is provided at its sides with handles F adapted to be taken hold of by the operator, to stretch the bridle E so as to engage the loop F with the keeper G, for securely fastening the head C and its neckC in position on the top B of the bust A. It is understood that normally, that is, when the 100 F is disengaged from the keeper G, the bridle E is contracted and the loop F is a distance above the keeper G, and in order to fasten the head 0 to the bust A it is necessary to stretch the bridle E, so as to put the same under tension when engaging the loop F with the keeper G. Thus by the arrangement described an exceedingly strong and durable fastening device is provided for securing the head C to the bust A, the entire fastening device being concealed within the hollow head C, and consequently the fastening device does not mar the external appearance of the display form.
In order to prevent lateral movement of the head 0 on the bust form A, the post D rests with its lower end against an upturned flange G formed on the keeper G, as plainly indicated in the drawings. of the brace D is secured a loop H of fabric material and extending to the outside of the display form at the junction of the front end of the neck C and the front top portion of the To the lower end bust A. Thus by the operator taking hold of the loop II the head can be tilted rearwardly, so as to gain sufficient access to the interior of the head, for the operator to disengage the loop F from the keeper G whenever it is desired to remove the head C from the bust A.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A device for fastening a hollow head to the bust of a display form comprising an elastic bridle secured to the inside of the said head and having an engaging loop provided with a handle, and a keeper secured to the top of the said bust and adapted to receive the said loop.
2'. A display form comprising a bust, a hollow head adapted to be seated on the said bust, and means interior of the said head for fastening the head in place on the bust and for holding the head against movement on the said bust said means being elastic to permit tilting of the head with respect to the bust, whereby to gain access to said fastening device.
3. A display form comprising a bust hav ing an inclined top, a hollow head adapted to seat on the said bust; top, a keeper on the said bust top, a frame within the said head and abutting against the said keeper, and an elastic bridle secured to the said frame within the said head and having a loop engaging the said keeper.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMIL T. PALMENBERG.
