Application filed April 2-1. 1907. Serial Nu. 370,000
State oi Ohio, have invented certain new and useful li-nprm'ements in .l lour-jins; and i hereb declare the following to be a toll, clear, and exact description oi the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in flour bins.
The object of this invention to provide, n combination with a receptacle or chest having a door arranged to swingvertically. a bin having means for removably mounting it on the door ol the cnest so that the bin may be readily removed in order to clean or empty the same. I
My invention tl *relore consists in the fern tures oil construction and combination o'l' parts, as described in the specili ZtttiOli, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the acconmanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings i igure l is a perspective view ol receptacle or chest on the door of which is mounted in improved bin. Figs. 2 and 3 are sections through the bin at a right angle to each other.
Again reilerring to the drrnvings l repre-' sents a statitmarv receptacle r chest of the usual construction. Such chests are generally constructed of wood and are built into the pantries oi houses when the houses are coi'istructcd. The chests are provided with vertically swinging doors and according to the lomition of the chests in the pantriesthe doors will in some cases open to the right and in other cases the doors will open to the lel't. The chest shown in the drawings is provided with a door 2 which opens to the left. [it the top of the. door 2 on the inside 'lace there of are secured two leaves 3 which are provided with hinge barrels 4. Across the bot tom of the door is secured a plate 6 which has an oil'set portion 7 which stands out from the surface of the door and forms a bracket. The bin for holding the llour preferably made of sheet metal and is quadrant shaped in horizontal section having two straight sides It) and 11 and a curved side 12. At the top of each straight side of the bin near the center thereof is formed a hinge barrel, indicated by l 13 and 14, of the same size as the hinge barrel on the door. it the bottom of each straight side of the bin is termed a depending flange indicated b 15 and 16. The llanges 15 andd (5 a adapted to lit into the bracket on the door. On the bottom of the bin and prelerably beneath the center thereot is arranged a support or leg 17 which is provided with a .roller bearing 18 which is designed to travel onthe iloor oi the pantry. The leg 17 practically supports the weight ol the bin and therefore. takes the strain oi] oi the door. The bin is provided with aquad ant shaped cover 20 which is provided with hinge bar 5 rels it which are in all respects similar to the hinge barrels -1- on the door. Pintle pins 22 and 22% of equal cross section are provided for operativelv connecting the hinge member on the door to the hinge member on one oi the sides of the bin and 'l'or connecting the hingemember on the other side of the bin with the hinge member on the cover. Handles 2 and 253 respectively are formed on the ends of the pintles 32 and 23 so that they mav easily be withdrawn from the barrels of the hinge-- members.
11 ans oi my invention i am able to provide a bin which can be mounted upon adoor which opens either to the right or to the left. This is not only a great advantage in manuitaetm'ing and marketing: the bins but also makes the bins more serviceable to the purchaser, for the owner ola bin on leaving a house can take the bin with him knowing that the bin will tit anv door.
'hen the door oi the chest swings to'the le't't as is shown in the drawing, the bin is mounted upon the door as heretoiore do scribed and when it is desired to emptv or clean the bin the pintle ('UDl'itCiilltf the hingemember on the bin to the'hinge member on the door is withdrawn and the bin can readily be removed from the door. Now if it is necessary to place the bin upon a door wh ch opens to the right the pintle securing the cover is withdrawn and the cover is reversed and the hinge member on the cover is connected with the hinge-member on the bill which was formerly connected with the hinge-member on the door and the hinge :member on the bin which was ,l'ormcrly conneeted with the hinge-member on the cover is then connected with the bingo-member on the door.
\Vhat .l claim is l. The combination with a chest having a door hinged to swine vertically ol' airingemember secured on the inner laee olsaid door near the top thereof, a ln'aeket secured arranged on one of the straight sides of said flange secured at below said hinge-member, a bin, quadrantshaped in horizontal section, a hinge-member bin at the top thereof, a depending flange secured at the bottom of said side and arranged to fit into the bracket on the bottom of the door and a .intle operatively connecting the hinge-r'nern er en the door and the hingernernber on the bin.
' 2. The combination with a chest having a door hinged to swing vertically of a hingerneniber secured on the inner face of said door near the top-thereof, a'bracket secured below said hinge-member, a bin, quadrant shaped in horizontal section, a hingemen1- ber arranged on one of the straight sides of said bin at the top thereof, a depending v the bottom of said side and irra'nged to iit into the bracket on the bottom of the door,a pintle {or operatively connecting the hinge-member on the door and the hinge-n1ember on the bin and a support secured beneath said bin on the bottom thereof and provided with roller bearings.
3. The combination with a chest, having a door hinged to swing vertically of a hingerneinber secured on the inner face of said door near the top thereof, a bracket secured on said door below said hinge-member, a bin, quadrant shaped in horizontal section, a hinge-member arranged at the to of each straight side of said bin and provided with barrels ofthe same size as on the hinge-membcr on the door, a depending flange adapted to fit into the bracket on the door secured at i the bottom of each straight side of the said bin, a cover provided with a hinge-member l corresponding to the hinge-member on the door and pintles for operatively connecting the hinge-member on one ofthe. straight sides of the bin to the hinge-member on the door and for securing the hinge nnernber on *the cover to the hinge-memberon the other straight side of the bin.
4. The combination with a chest having a door hinged to swing vertically of a hingemember secured on the inner face of said door near the top thereof, a bracket secured on said door below said hinge-member, a bin, quadrant shaped in horizontal section, a hinge-member arranged at the top of each straight side of said bin and provided with barrels of the same size as on the hinge-member on the door, a depending flange adapted to fit into the bracket on the door secured at the bottom of each straight side of said bin, a
cover provided with a hinge-niernber corresponding to the hinge-member on the door, pintles for operatively connecting the hingemember on one of the straight sides of the bin to the hinge-member on the door and for securing the hinge-member on the cover to the hinge-member on the other straight side bearing.
In testimony whereof, I slgn the foregoing specification, in the presence of two W1t- Vroroa C. LYNcn', N ll. McDo-NNEnL.
