HUMIDIFIER FOR MOISTENING THE WARP THREADS OP LOOMS WHEN UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS FORREST SMITH, OF BLACKBURN, ENGLAND.
HUMIDIFIER FOR MOISTENING THE WARP-THREADS F LOOMS WHEN WEAVING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1907.
' To all whom it may concern.-
- and Ireland, and a resident Be it known that I, TnoMAs FORREST SMITH, a subject of the King of Great Britain of 2 Market, Blackburn, in the county of Lancaster, England, cabinet-maker, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Humidifiers for Moistening the Warp-Threads of Looms When Weaving, for which I have obtained a atent in Great Britain, No. 11,000, bearing ate May 26, 1905, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so construct the humidifier that when applied to a loom it will be completely out of the way of the operative and to simplify the method of actuatin the humidifier and also to provide means w ereby the humidifier can be readily fixed to existing looms or to new looms.
The invention comprises an improved frame for supporting the humidifier by means of which the latter can be inserted between the warp beam and the crank shaft of the loom and out of the way of the operative and in so constructing and actuating the humidifier as to cause it to deliver the moisture or moistened air directly on to the warps of the loom.
Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification :Figure 1 is a front elevation of a loom fitted with the improved humidifier. Fig. 2 is a sectional end elevation of Fig. 1.
According to this invention the frames 1.1 for supporting the water trough 2 of the humidifier are each constructed out of one iece of preferably wrought iron bent in the orm of a hoop 3 at its upper end and terminating in two legs which converge toward one another underneath the trough 2 so as to occupy little space and enable the apparatus to be fixed in position between the warp beam 4 and the crank shaft 5 of the loom. The water trough 2 fits inside the hoops 3 and is steadied therein by screws 6.6 which engage with the upper edges of the trough 2 and each end of the latter is rovided with bearings for the spindle 8 o the brush 9 which is free to revolve in the aforesaid trough 2. Extending over the brush 9 and secured on the outer surfaces of the hoops 3 by thumbscrews or the like is a preferably sheet metal cover 10. An intervening space or a series of erforations 11.11 is or are left or formed in the sides of the trough 2 and the moistened air is delivered through such space or perforations by the revolving brush 9 and the moisture settles on and damps the warps 12 on or as they leave the warp beam 4. The brush spindle 8 is provided with a pulley 13 which is driven by a band 14 from the tappet shaft 15 of the loom.
In applyin the invention to new looms the legs 1 of t e frames may be turned at an angle and bolted or otherwise secured to one of the cross frames of the loom and in applying the frames to existing looms clam s 16 are provided which can be adjusted vertically on the legs 1 to clamp the latter to any convenient art of the loom framing. In either case the egsmay be provided with lengthening or adjusting pieces by means of which the height of the humidifier can be regulated as desired. When the invention is applied to several looms the troughs 2 may be provided with water pipes 17 and fittings by means of which the several troughs may be filled with water simultaneously. The humidifier may advantageously be used in iron foundries public halls and other buildin s and if a disinfectant be added to the water in the trough can be employed for disinfecting hospitals consumption homes and the like.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is I In a humidifier, the combination, with two supporting le s, each said leg comprising a loop-shaped frame the upper portion of which is provided with a hoop, of a trough supported in the said hoops and having an open top, a revoluble brush journaled in the said trough, and 'a cover carried by said hoo s and arranged over the said trough, two out et openings being formed, one on each side of the said rough, and the bottom edges of the said cover.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS FORREST SMITH.
Witnesses PERRY HILTON, FREDK. TALBOT.
