A further ob'ect of the invention is to provide a filing ca inet in which the box or casing is provided with a plurality of partitions,

dividing it into a number of compartments,

the partitions being connected to an opening or spreading member by means of which the partitions may be moved away from each other, thus opening up the compartments and permitting the ready filing or Withdrawal of the papers.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this class in which the several partitions are maintained in parallel relation, so that the bottoms of the compartments will be of the same width as the top or open ends, thus preventing the amming orcatching of the contents.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet having a plurality of vertically arranged movable partitions, and a movable member forming a part of or carried by the door of the case and connected to all of said partitions, so that it may be moved for the purpose of spacing the partitions from each other and opening all of the provide a filing cabinet in which a number of filing cases are mounted in a revoluble carrier and placed in a desk or other support, the carrier being freely movable to permit ready access to any of the cases.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a filing cabinet including a revoluble carrier and a plurality of filin cases, the carrier being arranged within a desk or simi: lar structure having an opening through which the carrier is exposed, the tops of the several cases being arranged to lie flush with the top of the desk.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a revoluble desk cabinet having a plurality of filing cases which may be adjusted to proper position, and moved or lifted up through an opening in the top of the desk in convenient position for the filing or examination of papers.

With these and other objects in view, as will more fully hereinafter appear, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arran ement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated'in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. g

In the accompanying draw1ngs:F1gure 1 is a perspective view of a portlon of a desk provided with a filing cabinet constructed and arranged in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away in order to more clearly illustrate the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the upper portion of the revoluble carrier, showing one of the filing cases in section. Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the case moved to the top of the desk and open. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of a portion of the hin ed front of the case, the section being on the ine 4-4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view on an enlarged scale showing the' manner 1n which the partitions are connected together.

In carrying out the invention, the desk or other suitable supportingcasing is pro vided with an opening 11 in the top or cover member, and within said desk or case are arranged bearings for the reception of the pmtles or shaft 15' of a revoluble carrier 16.

The l top or cover 22 is arranged to lie flush with i the top of the desk when in the closed position illustrated in Fig. '2, and is provided with l a sunken handle 24 which may be grasped when the case is to be raised above the top of the desk for examination-of its contents or the filing of papers. The several filing cases, of which there may be any number, are so justed-to a position opposite the opening 1 and when in this position, the top or cover will form a part of the desk top.

The hinged front 2l is arranged to fold down to a horizontal position in alinement with the bottom 1 8 of the ease, andthis hinged front is provided with a longitudinal groove 26 for the reception of a number of headed studs 27 that are carried by a slidable plate 28, said plate having flanges 29 on three of" its sides, so that when moved to the: position shown in Fig. 3, it may be used as a box or basket into which letters or other papers may be thrown preliminary to filing.

Arranged within the case 17 are vertically disposed partitions 30 which may be formed of cardboard, wood, sheet metalor any other material, and these are preferably connected together by folding or bellows side and bottom members 31, which will permit the movement of the partitions toward and from each other, the partitions, however, remaining at all times in parallel relation, so that the papers cannot become jammed at the bottom of thecompartments.

The bottoms of the partitions are connectthe front end of which is connected to the plate 28, and when this plate is pulled out to the position shown in Fig. 3, the tape will be stretched, and the partitions will be opened to the fullest extent, so that ready access may be had to the several filing compartments.

Normally the flanges 29 of the slidable plate extend over the front edges and the inner portion of the top of the case and serve as dust excluding members. When it is desired to gain access to any one of the filing cases, the drum may be readily rotated by the fingers until the top of the desired case appears at the opening 11. The case may then be raised to a point above the top of the table, and the front folded down, so that the case will remain in position on top of the desk. The plate 28 is then drawn out, and by this single movement all of the partitions are spread and the compartments opened to the fullest extent' It will be observed that when in open posi tion, the case has a bottom of very large area which will insure its standing in upright po- 1 sition while the papers are being filed away or examined.

In a lile cabinet, a casing having a hinged front movable to open position in alinement with the bottom of the case, a series of partitions arranged within the case, a flexible member eomiecting said partitions, and a receiving box connected to said flexible member and slidable over the front to thereby draw the partitions outward.

2. In a filing cabinet, a case having a hinged front, a plurality of partitions arranged within the ca'se, a flexible connecting means between said partitions, and a slidable member carried by the front and connected to the flexible member to permit spacing of said partitions.

3. The combination in a filing cabinet, of a case having a hinged front, a plate slidably mounted on said front, aplurality of partitions within the casing, and means connect ing the slidable plate to the iartitions.

4. In a filing cabinet, the combination with a case having a hinged front member, a slidable plate arranged on the inner face of said front member and provided with a marginal flange, partitions arranged within the case, and means for connecting said partitions to the slidable plate.

5. In a filing cabinet, the combination with a case, having a hinged front member, of a flanged plate slidably mounted on the inner face of the front and serving when in closed position as a dust guard, and when in open position as a receiving box or basket, a plurality of partitions within the case, flexible bottom and side members connecting the partitions and forming compartments, and a flexible strip connected to all of said partitions, and also connected to said flanged plate.

6. In filing cabinets, the combination with a supporting case having an opening at the top, of a revoluble carrier arranged within the case and having its periphery projecting slightly through the opening, a plurality of filing cases mountedon the carrier and adjustable into alinement with said opening,

7.
