Be it known that I, JAMES H. MCNAMARA, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunk-Leg Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to detachable trunk legs adapted to temporarily support a trunk in an elevated position above the floor convenient to the user, and has for its object to provide a simple and el'licient means of attachment between the leg and the trunk, in which are combined strength, stability and ease of attachment and detachment, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a detail end of the lower portion of a travelers trunk to which the present improvement is applied, the trunk member of the fastening being shown at one side, while at the other side the supporting leg is shown in position. Fig. 2, is a detail perspective view of the trunk member of the fastening. Fig. 8, is a similar view of the leg member of the fastening. Fig. 4, is a detail vertical section of the parts in aconnected condition. F ig. 5 is a section on line Fig. 2 of the socket member of the present construction.

Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in the several views.

Referring to the drawings, l represents the lower part of a travelers trunk, and 2 a series of socket or fastening members secured thereto as shown. Each of said trunk members comprises a flat marginal attaching web formed with holes for the passage of attaching screws or rivets, and a central chambered body portion 3, the front wall of which is formed with one or more vertical apertures or orifices 4 for the introduction of the hook shaped lugs of the companion foot member ofthe fastening, and which in turn comprises a construction as followsz, is a flat web shaped body portion formed with vertical marginal flanges 6 on its opposite edges to form a receiving cavity which lits over the chambered body portion 3 of the trunk member aforesaid, to prevent lateral sway between the respective fastening members when in engagement. 7, are one or more upturned hook shaped lugs formed midway the width ofthe body 5 aforesaid and adapted for insertion through and engagement behind the walls of the apertures or orifices 4 of the body portion of the trunk member, to effect a substantial connection of the members together in a manner which permits of ready subsequent detachment. S, are a pair of vertical marginal flanges, and 9 is a top marginal flange on the body portion 5 aforesaid, and extending in an opposite direction to that of the before described marginal flanges 6, to form a shallow receiving chamber for the upper end of a bar l0 of wood or the like, which constitutes one of the legs of the trunk, and which is permanently secured in said chamber by screws or other like fastening means. 11 and 12, are cross ribs formed in the interior of the chambered body portion of the trunk member aforesaid, and adapted to have bearing against the face of the trunk to aid in supporting such body portion against l crushing strains in actual use;

Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A leg attachment for trunks comprising a trunk member formed with a chambered body portion having one or more apertures in its front wall, a legmember formed with a flat web having one or more upturned hook shape lugs, and a leg attached to said leg member, substantially as set forth.

2. A leg attachment for trunks comprising a trunk member formed with a marginal attaching web and a chambered body portion having one or more apertures in its front wall, a leg member formed with a flat web having vertical marginal [langes on its inner face adapted to t the sides of the body portion of the trunk memb er, and one or more upturned hook shape lugs arranged centrally, and a leg attached to said leg member, substantially as set forth.
