Be it known that CHARLES FREDERICK WARNER, deceased, at the time of his demise a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, did invent certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Electric Switchboards, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is the production of a supporting means for small and medium-size switchboards, capable of being adapted to switchboards of different sizes and shapes, whereby the necessity for designing special supports for each switchboard is obviated.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a switchboard embodying the features of my invention. Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are detail sectional views on dotted lines 2 2, 3 3 and 4 4 of Fig. l.
In the drawings, 1 refers tothe supporting posts upon which the switchboard proper is mounted. These posts may be formed of stock tubing or gas-pipe, and are arranged to be secured to the iioor by means of feet 2. If desired, the upper ends of the posts l may be ornamented in any preferred way, as by the balls 3.
The switchboard proper consists of a rectangular slab 4 of marble or other suitable insulating material, and its lower corners are set within corner-pieces or sockets 5 iixed to brackets 6, which brackets are adjustably mounted upon the posts l by means of sleeves 7 formed integral with said brackets. The brackets 6 are fixed in position upon the posts l by means of screws 8 extending through the sleeves 7 and bearing against said posts. The corner-pieces 5 may be cast or formed integral with the brackets 6, if desired, or they may be made separate therefrom and secured to the brackets in any convenient way. As herein shown, the cornerpiece or socket 5 comprises a vertically extending plate 6a formed integral with the bracket 6 and adapted to lie at the rear side of the slab 4, and a corner plate 5a adapted to lie at the front side of the slab, the plates 5a and 6a being secured together in any suitable way, asllby means of bolts. The upper end of the switchboard proper is steadied and supported by means of clips 9, said clipsbeing provided with integral sleeve portions It will be seen that my invention obviates the necessity ior designing special supports for each particular switchboard. ilhe side posts may be formed of stock tubing cut to any required length. rIhe brackets 6 upon which the slab is supported may be secureoA upon the side posts at any suitable height. The clips 9 may be adi-usted in position as needed to support the slab firmly.
I claim as my invention:
1. A switchboard suppciting-means consisting of two side posts, each formed from cylindrical tubing and provided with attaching feet, supporting brackets for the switchboard pro er, each bracket. comprising a sleeve slida ly mounted upon one of said si de posts, a set screw for iixing each bracket upon its side post, said bracketalso comprising a corner piece in which one of the lower corners of the switchboard is adapted to be set, and adjustable means adapted to support the upper portion of the switchboard, said means comprising a clip adapted to receivc a vertical edge of said switchboard, and provided with a sleeve portion sl idably mounted upon the side posts, and a sei". screw for securing said sleeve upon its side post.

A switchboard supporting-mealis consisting of two side posts each provided with attaching feet, supporting brackets for the switchboard proper, each bracket comprising a sleeve slidably mounted upon onev cf said. side posts, a set screw for i'iXing each bie-.cket upon its side post in desired position, said bracket also comprising a corner piece in which one of the lower corners of a switchboard is adapted to be set, said corner piece having a bottom wall and a back wall vtransverse to the bottom wall, and adjustable means adapted to support the upper portion of the switchboard, said means comprising a clip adapted to receive a vertical edge of said switchboard, and provided with a sleeve portion slidably mounted upon the side posts, and a set screw for securing said sleei'e upon its side post.
