To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OTTO J AEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ogontz, county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Medicine-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in medicine cabinets, andgjhas for its object to so construct a cabinet of this descri tion as to provide for the accomodation of various kinds of medicines in bottles and to provide a separate compartmentfor poisons, the latter being housed in so as to require the drawing down of a frame before such poisons may be removed from the cabinet, and a further object of my invention is to provide a light so that the contents of the cabinet may be easily inspected at night and to give a warning signal when the frame is lowered for the removal of any of the poisons, thus overcoming the liability of poison being used in a mistake.
With these ends in View, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet made in accordance with my improvement, the door being shown in an open position. Fig. 2, a section of a portion of the cabinet showing the frame for housing in the poisons swung downward. Fig. 3, a similar view showing the frame in its elevated or closed position. Fig. 4, a diagram of the wiring by means of which the light is thrown into and out of circuit.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied, A represents a cabinet of any size or design which may either be secured upon the face of a wall or built in the same, and this cabinet has any desired number of shelves B located therein upon which bottles or other articles may be placed, and in front of one of the compartments formed by the shelves,
referably the central compartment, a ame O is hinged so that when this frame is swung upward to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, bottles located within this compartment cannot be removed until the frame has been swung downward to the position shown in Fig. 2.
D is a sign suspended from the cross bar of the frame, and having prominently displayed thereon the word poison, so that any person opening the cabinet will at once see that the contents of this particular compartment contains poison.
E represents a door, which is hinged at F to the cabinet, and this door has upon the inside thereof an electric lamp G which is connected by the wire H with the battery I, said battery being located in a special compartment within the cabinet provided therefor, and J is a wire leading from the opposite terminal of the battery to the contact point K, while a contact spring L is carried by the door so that when the latter is swung open to a certain distance this spring will come in contact with the point K and close the cir-. cuit causing the lamp to burn. In practice, I prefer to have this circuit maker so arranged that when the door is open at right angles to the cabinet the circuit will not be made, but any further movement of the door will close the circuit, lighting the lamp. The object of this is to avoid using the electric current in the day time and when not needed, but permitting the lamp to be lighted when. ever needed by opening the door to a sufficient extent to close the circuit.
The frame O carries a red glass disk M so located that when the frame is swung downward to the position shown in Fig. 2 this disk will lie in front of the lamp G and thus throw a red light in the face of the person opening the cabinet, thereby giving warning that the contents of the compartment housed by the frame is poison.
By the use of my improved cabinet it will be impossible for anyone to make a mistake in removing poisons from the cabinet for other medicines, and thus many lives will be saved which are now constantly being lost by mistakes in such manner.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is In a medicinecabinet, a series of compartments, a frame hinged in front of one of said compartments, a labeled sign carried by the frame, a warning glass disk also carried by the frame, a door hinged to the cabinet, an electric lamp carried by said door, a battery located within a compartment formed in the cabinet, a contact point connected with one terminal of the battery, a contact spring carfixed my signature in the presence of two rled by the door and connected wlth the subscribing witnesses.
