SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 747,778, dated December 22, 1903.

This annunciator is especially adapted for calling or notifying an expressman or a desired one of several expressmen from an office-or other point located at a distance from the annunciator. The latter is generally at the street-entrance or other point visible to expressinen. g
This annunciator is illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation sectioned along :0 00, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a front elevation sectioned alongy y, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view on a larger scale than Fig. 2 and sectioned along 2 2, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a diagram.
In the drawings is shown a box or receptacle with bottom a and body b. In the front of the box are transparent panels or glass panes c. The name of the proprietor or other matter can be visibly secured or fixed to the top, as seen atd. Two annunciator shields or signs are shown at e and 9'; but this number can be varied. Each annunciator-shield is mounted on a rock-shaftf, having a pinion'or gear connection with a toothed end or portion of an armature or lever g, fulcrumed at h. Two magnets or sets of magnets k and Z are shown for moving the armature to and fro. As magnet Z is'vitalized the armature is moved to raise or swing the annunciator-shield, so as to expose or show through the front or transparent panel. As magnet 7:; is in turn vitalized the armature g is moved to drop the shield or swing-the same out of sight. The buttons or switches in Z alternately close one circuit or another, according to the magnet to be vitalized. The armature is balanced or has a balancingspring m to overcome the tendency to drop or accidentally shift.
Lights 'n, maybe included in the arrangement to be used at such times or localities as needed.
The partition (shown at 0) should be transparent or allow the light from 'n to strike the annunciator-shields.
7 The device or box can be connected with suitable wiring in the building or other localit-y by. suitable plug or other connections, such as binding-posts or the like.

armature extending between the magnets'and provided with a toothed end, a balancespring for said armature, a rocking shaft arranged in the casing and having a pinion adapted to be engaged by the toothed end of the armature so that when the magnets are energized,'the shaft will be suitably rocked, and a sign or equivalent device carried by the said shaft.
2. An ahnunciator comprising a pair of oppositely-located magnets, an armature extending between the magnets and having a pivoted and a toothed end, a balance-spring for said armature,'a shaft provided with a pinion adapted to be engaged by the end of the armature so that when the magnets are energized, the shaft will be suitably moved, and a sign or equivalent device carried by the said shaft and adapted to be exposed when one of the magnets is energized and be lowered when the other of the magnets is energized.
3. An annunciator comprising acasing, oppositely-located magnets arranged therein,an
. armature extending between the magnets and provided with a toothed end, a balance-spring for said armature, a rocking shaft arranged in the casing and having a pinion adapted to be engaged by the toothed end of the armature so that when the magnets are energized,
the shaft will be suitably rocked, a sign or equivalent device carried by the said shaft,
front compartment and provided at one end with a pinion, a pivoted armature extending between said magnets and having its free end toothed and'adapted to engage 'with'said teeth, a sign or equivalent device arranged in said front compartment and suitably connected With said shaft, said rook-shaft when said magnets are energized, adapted to be moved by the said armature, and an illuminating device arranged in said rear compartment.
' 5. In an annunciator, the combination of a casing having a transparent front wall and a transparent partition dividing said easing into a front and a rear compartment, oppositely-located magnets arranged in said front compartment, a rock-shaft mounted in said front compartment and provided atone end with a pinion, a pivoted armature extending between said magnets and having its free end toothed and adapted to engage with said teeth, a sign or equivalent device arranged in said front compartment and suitably connected with said shaft, said rock-shaft when the said magnets are energized adapted to be moved by the said armature so as to elevate and lower said sign, a balance-spring for said armature, and an illuminating device arranged in said rear compartment.
