Radiating from the lower part of the drum 10 butnot quite all around it, are tubes 17 and 18, which are staggered so that the tubes 18 will not be in vertical alinement with the tubes 17, and these connect the drum 10 with headers 19, which latter can be of any approved form either straight or serpentine. With these ends in view, and with the general object of producing a boiler which will make steam economically, my invention consists of certain features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and claimed.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that I provide a very simple and highly eificient. boiler, which is a combination of fire tubes and water tubes, that the hot gases of combustion will rise through the tubes 13 and pass down and out through the tubes 14, while a part of the hot gases will also rise between the several water tubes, and so I provide a boiler having water tube and fire tube 1 features in avery compact form and in a manner to economize heat.
It will be obvious that the design can be changed materially without affecting the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A boiler of the kind described, comprising a main drum having fire tubes extending longitudinally through it, water headers placed around the main drum, water tubes connecting the headers with the main drum, and mud drums placed around the main drum and connected with the main drum and with the water headers.
2. A boiler of the kind described, comprising a main body portion having an enlarged steam drum, up take fire tubes leading through the boiler proper, down-take fire tubes leading through the steam drum, upper and lower water headers arranged around the boiler, mud drums below the water headers, and connections between the boiler proper, the headers, and the mud drums.
3. The combination with the fire tube and water tube boiler, of superposed series of water tube headers, arranged. around and forming the sidewalls of the boiler, the said headers connecting by water tubes with the boiler.
