Description
Campe C@tin DARIO E. CROSBY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent No. 85,513, dated January 5, 1869.
mnovsn RAG-CUTTING MACHINE.
The Schedule xeferred to in these'Letters Patent and uialnng part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnAnIO E. CROSBY, of Hnrtn'd, county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improved in llngCntting Machine; and to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saule, I will proceed to describe its construction and opemtion, by referring to the drawings, in which the same letters indicate like parts in each ofthe figures.
The nature of this invention consists in arranging ledger-bhnies near the centre of a horizontal snrin'e Wheel plate, and in or nearly in parallel lineswith a rght-angle line drawn through the centre ofthe wheels axis.
It also consists in providing bosses and fasteningscrews, by means of which the blades are secured in place, and their cutting-edges adjusted to the stationary bladc in the stock or trame-work.
In the accompanying drawings- Fignre 1 is a face-side and edge View of the cutterwheel.
Figure 2 is a back-side and edge view of the same.
a is the .vheel-plate.
b is the wheel-hub, by which it is secured upon the shaft.
c are stiieniug or supporting-ribs.
d are cnttei-blades, secured in the outer edge or surface of the wheel in the ordinary way, and in diverging lines from the centre of the wheels axis.
d' are lel'ger or cutter-blades, arranged near the ceutre of a. disk, and in or nearly in a parallel line with a line drawn through the centre of the wheels zs, and nearly at right :ingles with'eneh other.
e are bosses, against which the cutter blades d take their bearing.
c' are bosses, which forms a, support for the bolts or keys g, for griping or holding the cutter-blades firmly against the bosses e.
These bolts or keys gare tightened by 'nuts f.
The blades are adjusted to their vrelative position with the stationary cutter-Maule by means of set-screws, h, which are arranged in the plate a, the ends of Wlleh bear against the back edge of the knives d, for the pm'- pose of aeenmtely adjusting the cuttingedge to me stntionm'y cutters iirmly fixed in the stock or flamework ofthe machine.
The object of this invention is'to firstcut the rags into small nieces, by means of thc centre cutters d', ater which the pieces find their way outward, and are timely cut or ground between the blades d and a. con'espondirgg stationary cutting-suritoe.
I believe I have thus shown the nature and construe tion of this invention, so as to enable Others skilled, m
make and use the smne therefrom.
lVhnt I claim, therefore, and desire l'o secure fyLeitters lstent, is-
The Ycombination of the adjustable ledger-blades l' with the tixed blades (l and wheel-plate l, substantiall)Y as and. for the purpose described.
