Description

PATENTBD MAY 21,1:1901. STIEPEL'. GOAL 011mm MACHINE.
APPLICATION FILED I'EB.18, 1907.
7Wnesses;
THE NORRIS Pzrzns co., WASHINGTON, n c
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1907.
Application filed Febru ry 18,1907. Serial No. 358,094,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH STIEPEL, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Essen-on-the-Ruhr, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coal-Cutting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a coal cutting machine in which the reciprocating movement of the cutting tool is eiiected by means of an eccentric.
In the accompanying drawing, the improved coal cutting machine is shown.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, Fig. 2 a plan, and Fig. 3 a side view, of the same.
On the top plate of a truck of any suitable type, the bracket 2 is fixed, in which the toothed gearing 3, 4 is mounted. The lat ter is adapted to be actuated by means of a hand crank 5 or in any other suitable manner. The axle of the toothed wheel 4 carries an eccentric 6 which is placed between the vertical guide-jaws 7 of a horizontal doublearmed lever 9 centered at 8 in the top plate 1 of the truck. This doubled-armed lever 9 carries at its other end the segmental cutting tool 10 and rests on two races 11 and 12 provided on the top plate 1 and designed to guide said lever when the latter is moving.
WVhen actuating the toothed gearing, the the movement of the eccentric is transmitted to the guide-jaws 7 and the lever 9 in such a manner that to the segmental cutting tool 10 a reciprocating movement is imparted.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A coal cutting machine comprising in combination, a truck having a top plate (1), a bracket (2) fixed on said top plate, a toothed gearing (3, 4) mounted in said bracket, an eccentric (6) connected with said toothed gearing and thus adapted to be actuated by the latter, a horizontal double-armed lever (9) centered in said top plate, vertical guidejaws (7) provided at one end of said lever (9) and designed to receive between them said eccentric and thus to be acted upon by the atter, a segmental cutting tool (10) provided on the other end of said lever and thus adapted to be reciprocated upon the actuation of said eccentric, and races (11, 12) provided on said top plate and designed to guide said lever (9), substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRIEDRICH STIEPEL.
