MONROE ENGELSMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GEM-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1907.
Application iled March 22,1906. Serial No. 307,443.
To n/ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be 1t known that I, MONROE ENeELsMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gem-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gem holders, and its object is the production of a gem holder, which can be adjusted to hold or clamp gems, diamonds, stones and the like of vari ous sizes, and which can be fitted to iingers of different sizes.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a device embodying the invention, Fig. 2 is a sideview of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 shows a top view of. Fig. 1, Fig. 4 represents a front view of a modification of the invention, Fig. 5 shows a section of Fig. 4 on the line 5, 5, and Fig. 6 is a top view of Fig. 4.
The invention comprises the U shaped spring band 20, which has riveted thereon the reeinforcing band 21. Clamping jaws 22 are adjustably bolted to the spring band 20 by means of the screws 23, which enter elongated openings or slots 24 in the jaws 22, and
are screwed into tapped `holes in the band 20.
The ends of the jaws are formed into hooks 25. An opening 26 is formed in the crown of the band 20, and in the crown of the re-inforcing band 21.
ln the modified form of my invention a spring band 30 is shown with the re-inforcing band 31. And the clamping aws 32 terminate at their upper ends in the elliptic pockets 33. An opening 34 is made in both the spring band 30 and the re-inforcing band 31.
To use the invention and referring to Figs. 1 to 3 a gem 40 is held securely in place by the hooks 25 ofthe clamp. To place the gern between the hooks, the lower ends of the band 20 are pushed toward each other, when the hooks 25 will open to permit the insertion of the gem or other stone and the like, and the opening 26 will allow light to pass through the gem, The spring band can be easily slipped on a inger.
To use the device for different sizes of gems the screws 23 are unscrewed from the band 2O and the clamps moved either toward, or from each other as desired.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. ln a gem holder the combination of a spring band, clamping jaws secured thereto, and hooks extending from the jaws.
2. ln a gem holder the combination of a spring band. having an opening therethrough, clamping jaws each having a slot on the band, a screw engaging the slotfor each jaw and screwed into the spring band.
3. ln a gem holder the combination of a U shaped spring band, a re-inforcing band secured thereto, and clamping jaws adjustably secured to the said spring band.
4. In a gem holder the combination of a U shaped spring band to be placed on a finger and having an opening in its crown, a re-inforcing band having an Opening, secured to the spring band so that the latter opening will come in line with the Opening of the spring band, clamping jaws adjustably secured to the spring band, and a hook end eX- tending from each of said jaws.
Signed at New York in the county of New York and State of New York this 16th day of March A. D. 1906.
