Description
l PATENTED MAY 21 J. W. R. BAGHMAN & E. M. GREEN.v
WINDOW SHADE HANGER. APPLIGATION PI'LBDJAN. 12. 1907.
j UNITED STATES PATENT oPEIoE.
JOSEPH W. R. BAOHMAN AND ELBERT M. GREEN, OF ERIOK, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
WINDOW-SHADE HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1907.
Application filed January 12, 1907. Serial No. *$51,990.
.To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that we, JosEPH W. R. BACH- MAN and ELBEET M. GREEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Erick, in the county of Greer and State of Oklahoma,'have invented certain new and `useful Improvements in Window-Shade Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention appertains to curtain fix; tures of the type admitting of adapting shade rollers to windows of different widths and providing for vertical adjustment of the shade roller to provide for ventilation.
E or a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings.
While the invention may be'adapted to different forms and conditions by changes in the structure and minor details without departing from the spirit or essential' features thereof, still the preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window and shade roller equipped with fixtures for the shade roller embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of one of the slides.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters. i
The shade roller 1 may be of any type and as illustrated, is of the spring variety so as to automatically wind up the shade, or curtain.
T he frame supporting the shade roller is adjustable both vertically and laterally, or horizontally, and comprises upper and lower bars 2 and 3 respectively and intermediate connecting bars A. The upper bar 2 is provided at its ends with brackets 5 in which the journals of the shade roller 1 are mounted in the usual manner. In the present construction, the brackets 5 are an integral part of the bars 2 being formed by bending end portions thereof about at a right angle. The bars 2- and 3 have a parallel arrangement and by having one located above the other, the shade roller is enabled to occupy a position above the window opening when the frame is adjusted to its highest position.
Strips 6 are attached to the sides of the window frame, or casernent, and constitute guides for supporting the shade roller frame. Slides 7 are mounted upon the strips, or guides 6 and are adapted to be secured in an adjusted position by means of catches 8. The slides 7 are preferably blocks of wood and are provided at their outer edges with clips 9 which embrace opposite edges of the respective strips or guides so as to retain the slides in place and give proper direction thereto in the vertical adjustments of the shade roller. Each slide is provided with a keeper 10 in which the lower bar 3 of the shade roller frame is mounted and adapted to have a limited lateral or horizontal play. Upon releasing the catches 8 from the strips, or guides 6, the slides 7 and the shade roller frame may be moved vertically either up or down to admit of adjusting the shade roller 1 to the required elevation with reference to the window' so as to secure proper light and ventilation. When the shade roller is lowered and the upper sash is drawn down, an
unobstructed passage is provided at the top of the window for escape of warm and vitiated air. The construction, while admitting of thorough ventilation also provides for shutting out rays of sunlight, or screening the window when desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In shade roller fixtures, the combination of vertical guides arranged at opposite sides of the window, slides movable` vertically upon said guides, means for connecting the slides to the guides in an adjusted position, a bar, keepers slidably connecting said bar to each of the aforementioned slides to admit of the bar having longitudinal movement, a second bar provided with shade roller brackts, and connecting means between the two ars.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
