STOVE FOR RAILROAD-CARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 85,348, dated Decembcl' 29, 1868.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, A. P. WINSLOW, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves for Railroad-Oars;
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings.
The nature of my invention consists in so constructing a stove for railroad-cars that, in case of an accident or the turning over of the stove, the fire in the same will be immediately extinguished by means of the water which is always in the tank, which tank forms the bottom or base of the stove.
To enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use my invention, I describe it as follows, viz:
I construct a tank, A, about one foot longer and about one foot wider than the stove which is to be placed thereon. This tank should be about six inches deep, and it constitutes the base or bottom of the stove.
The stove B, to be placed upon the tank, may be of any desired pattern.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is--- The tank, as specified and shown, which constitutes at the same time a base or bottom for a stove and a tank for the purpose of carry-v ing water to be utilized in extinguishing the fire in the stove in case of accident.
