Description

No. 853,467 PATENTED MAY 14-;1907;
A. G. NOVESS.- PHOTOGRAPHBRS LIGHT REGULATOR. I
APPLIUATIOH PILED AUG. 11, 1906.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1907.
Application filed August 11, 1906. Serial No. 330,218.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALoNZo C. NovEss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Photographers Light-Regulator, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to provide an adjustable mechanical device for regulating the light that falls upon a person or persons or objects before a camera to be photographed.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device in position as required for practical use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail View that shows how the horizontal stem of the curtain holder is adjustably connected with an adjustable standard.
The numeral 10 designates the foot or base of an upright or standard 12 that has an adjustable extension 13 at its top telescopically connected with the upper end portion by a set screw 14 as required for raising and lowering a frame for supporting curtains.
A red 1.5 is adjustably and detachably connected with the extension 13 by a coupling device composed of a ball 16 that has a vertical bore for the extension 13 and a horizontal bore for the rod 15 and another horizontal bore for a set screw 1-? as shown in Fig. 2, or in any suitable way. A tubular cross head 18 is fixed to the end of the rod 15.
quadrangular frame 19, preferably made of a single length of wire, is pivotally connected with the cross-head 18 by extending its ends into the end portions of the cross head 18 as shown or in any suitable way in such a manner that the degree of angle of the frame relative to the cross-head 18, the horizontal rod 15 and the standard 12, can be readily changed as desired. as indicated by dotted lines.
Two curtains 20 made of a light textile fabric are connected with the top of the frame 19, and to a cross wire 21 adjustably attached to the sides of the frame, by a plurality of rings 22, as shown, or in any suitable way so they can be readily shirred and separated as required for regulating the passage of light between them. The friction of the rings on the frame and cross wires retains the curtains stationary,
A cross wire 23 is adjustably connected to the frame 19 beyond the lower ends of the curtains 20 and the curtains 24 are connected therewith and to the lower end of the frame 19 by rings 22 so the curtains can be shirred and separated as far as desired at any time to allow the passage of light between them.
A cross wire, 25, is ad ustably attached to the lower end of the frame 19 over the curtains 24 and two curtains 26 are connected therewith by rings 22, or in any suitable way so they can depend therefrom to be separated at any time and as far apart as desired for regulating the passage of light between them and as required for illuminating the subject to be photographed.
A cord 27 is attached to the upper corners of the frame 19 and to its center is fixed a second cord 28 for adjusting theinclination of the frame 19 and curtains thereon relative to the standard 12 by fastening the cord to the rod 15 as shown, or in any suitable Way.
Coil springs o are fixed to the cross wire 23 and to the frame 19 for retaining the wire 23 and the curtains 24 elevated over the curtains 20 and coil springs b are fixed to the frame 19 and the cross wire 21 to retainthe curtains 20 under the crosswire 23 and the upper ends of the curtains 24.
Having thus set forth the purpose of my invention and the manner of its construction and use the practical operation and utility thereof will be obvious.
l/Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. In a photographers li ht regulator, a standard having an adjustable extension at its top, a rod adjustably connected with the extension, a tubular cross head fixed. to the end of the rod, an adjustable coupling device to fasten the rod to the extension and a frame for supporting curtains pivotally cou nected with the cross head by extending the ends of the frame into the ends of the cross head, to operate as set forth.
2. In a photographers light regulator, a standard having an adjustable extension at its top, a rod adjustably connected with the extension, a coupling device for adjustably connecting the rod with the standard, a tubular cross head fixed to the end of the rod, a frame composed of a single wire for supporting curtains pivotally connected with the cross head by inserting its ends in the ends of the cross head and a plurality of curtains adjustably connected with the frame.
ICO
3. In a photographers light regulator, a
- standard haviug an adjustable extei'lsion at its top, a rod having a tubular cross head at its end a coupling device for adjustably fastoning the rod to the extension, a frai'ne composed of a single length. of wire for supporting curtains pivotally connected with. the cross head and a plurality of curtains adjustably connected with the frame and cords to adjust the pivoted fraine relative to the cross head. and standard, as set forth.
4. A pl'iotographers light regulator, coinrising a portable starnlard, an adjustable upward extension at the top of the starnlard, a rod adjustably connected with the said extension, a cross head at the end of the rod, a quadrangular frame pivotally connected with said red, cross wires fixed to the frame and curtains adj ustably connected with the frame and the cross wires.
5. A photographers light regulator comprising a portable standard, a rod adjustably connected with the standard, a cross head at the end of the rod, a quadrangular frame pivotally' col'ini-zeted with said red, cross wires Iixed to the frame, curtains adjustably con nected. with the frame and the cross wires and means for adjusting, the inclination of the frame, arranged and combined. to operate as set forth.
(i. A photographers light regulator com prising a portable standard having an adjustable extension at its top, a rod adjustably connected with the extension, a cross head fixed to the end of the rod, a frame pivotally co'iilnected with the cross head, cross wires lined to the frame, two curtains connected with the top of the frame and a cross wire, two curtains connected with the upper cross Wire and the lower end of the frame, two curtains connected with the lower cross wire and cords connected with the upper corners of the frame, all arranged and combined to operate as set forth.
