SHAFT AND PULLEY COLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1907.
Application filed March 10, 1906. Serial No 305,242.
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, EPAPHRAS LEE BEAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fredericksburg, in the county of Gillespie and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaft and Pulley Collars, of which the following is a j specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to collars for shafts and pulleys having set-screws whereby they may be secured in position upon a shaft; and it has for its object vto provide means for shielding said set-screw from sustaining or inflicting injury.
The invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the collar is provided adjacent to the radial recess 2 with shallow depressions constituting a seat for a curved plate or shield 4 the outer face of which is flush with the rim of the collar. The shield or plate 4 is provided on its under side with dovetailed ribs 5, 5 engaging dovetailed grooves 6, 6 formed in the shallow depressions constituting the seat which latter is designated 8. The depressions constituting the seat do not extend entirely across the rim or face of the pulley, the latter being provided with a narrow stop-flange 7 forming a stop to limit the movement of the shield 4 in one direction. The dovetailed ribs 5 will, when in engagement with the grooves 6, be held with a degree of friction that will be sufficient to retain the shield 4 in position.
What is claimed is:
A collar having a radial recess accommodating the head of a fastening screw and provided adjacent to said recess with shallow depressions extending partly across the rim of the collar, the latter being provided with a stop-flange, and said depressions having dovetailed grooves, in combination with a shield provided near the ends thereof with dovetailed ribs engaging the grooves.
In testimony whereo I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EPAPHRAS LEE BEAL.
