. In order to provide a shaving brush which isadapted' to be sterilized, it is necessary that lithe brush consist of as few parts as possible and that said parts be assembled in such a provide manner that they may be readily separated and the tuft easily removed and replaced.
The object of the resent invention is to a brush of this character, and this is w accomplished by providing a holder or handle comprismg a sectional, metal sleeve formed abut w 'agement with the brush tuft.
of two ably connected by a hinge or link, and means for holding said sections together and in en- In' the embodiment of the invention illustrated, the
members of said sectional sleeve are held together and in engagement with the tuft by an outer'sleeve into which the sectional sleeve isfadapted to be removably inserted. The in'nersleeve is provided at its end opposite the tuft with a bottom or laterally projecting plate, and by pressing on this bottom or plate said inner sleeve and the tuft engaged thereb may be forced from the outer sleeve. V hen the inner sleeve is thus removed, the sections thereof may be readily separated to release the tuft. In the accompanying drawings,-Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a shaving brush constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a similar view of a slightly modified form; Fig. 3 illustrates another modification; andFig. 4 is a detail of one manner of engagin the inner sectional sleeve of the holder wit the tuft.
The brush mcludes a tuft a formed of any I suitablevegetable or animal fiber arranged in such manner that it may be subjected to boiling, or sterilizing in hot water, without causing the fibersto separate or become detached. As shown, the tuft is composed of .a series of fiber strands which are bent or folded upon themselves so that both ends thereof project or extend to the outer end of the tuft, the several fibers being suitably conparts, the longitudinal edges of which en in use, said sections being preferportlng is provided nected at or near the inner ends of the tuft.
This tuft is carried by a holder orhandle comprising two sleeves b, c, inserted one' within the other, the inner sleeve b consisting of two parts which surround the inner end of the tuft and clampthe same between them.
In the. embodiment of the invention illustrated in Fig. 1, the space within the inner sleeve which is not filled by the end of the tuft is occupied by a plug (1. The outer. sleeve 0 is provided at its end opposite the tuft with an inwardly extending rim, against which a plate 2, closing the'end of the inner sleeve, rests or bears. By exerting'pressure on the plate e or plug d from/the end of the outer sleeve 0 opposite the tuft, the inner, sectional sleeve -b is forced'from the outer sleeve and the tuft a is readily detached therefrom. i
The construction illustrated in Fig. 2 differs from that shown in Fig. 1 by having a suitable ferrule a at the inner end of the tuft, which ferrule is engaged by the correspondingly shaped end of the inner sleeve b 1 i order to i'spense with the lug d the bottom plate eis fixed to one of t e sections of the inner sleeve 1) and soshaped as to form .a supsurface for the other section of said sleeve. As the end'of the tuft a or its ferrule is, in this embodiment of the invention, firmly gripped by the inner sleeve b a plug (1, whic would interfere with the insertion of the tuft into the sleeve is not required.
The form of the invention shown in Fig. 3
differs from that illustrated in Fig. 2 by havferent lengths. The shorter section of said inner sleeve is connected to the longer section by a link or hinge, and the longer section with a bottom plate e By this means, it isfnot necessary to ,force the inner sleeve b entirely out of the sleeve 0 when it is desired to disengage or release the'tuft from the handle, but it is only necessary to force out the inner sleeve .to such an extent that the shorter section thereof projects beyond the rim of the outer sleeve 0 when the tuft will be disengaged from the inner sleeve, the sections of said sleeve 6 being, however, still connected by the aforesaid link or hinge.
' In'each of the forms of the invention illus' trated, itis possible to release thetuft from the handle by pressure on the inner sleeve, that is to say, by forcing said sleeve out from the rear of the holder.
IIO
The ferrule at the inner end of the tuft may have-theform shown in Fig. 4, which differs slightly from that'shown in Figs. 2 and 3. That is, in the form shown in Fig. 4, the ferrule a is provided, in addition to the tuft engaging section corresponding to the ferrule a of Fi 2, withran extension or collar a and the inner sleeve 1) of the holder will have a form corresponding to the ferrule and adapting it to securely engage the same.
Having thus described t e invention, What is claimed is,
1. In a shaving brush, the combination of a tuft, and a holder or handle consisting of an inner sectional sleeve enga ing the inner end of the tuft, and an outer s eeve surrounding the sectional sleeve and constituting the outer portion of the handle and holding the sections of the sectional sleeve together and in engagement with the tuft said sleeves being adapted to be readily disconnected and engaged.
2 ]ln a shaving brush, the combination of a tuft, a sleeve engaging the inner end of the tuft and consisting of two sections hinged to-' gether and having their longitudinal edges ;abutting, one of said sections being longer subscribing witnesses.
than the other, and an outer sleeve adapted to receive said sectional sleeve. 1
3. In a shaving brush, the combination of a tuft, a sectional sleeve engaging the'inner' end of the tuft, andanouter sleeve surrounding said inner sleeve and having at one end an inwardly extending rim, against which the end of a section of the inner sleeve opposite the tuft is adapted to bear. v
4. In a shaving brush, the combination of a tuft, a sleeve engaging the inner end of the ,tuft and consisting of two sections hinged together, one of said sections being shorter than the other, and the longer section having at its end opposite the tuft a laterally extending plate or dish, and an outer sleeve surroundmg said sectional sleeve and holding the sectiofns thereof in close engagement with the tu t. v In' testimony whereof I. have signed-my name to this specification in ALBERT HELMIBACH.
