:g-Bc it known that I, MILTON H. SHOEn BERG, a citizen of the United States', residing fat the city and county of San Francisco an [State of Californiafhave'invented 'new and vuseful Im rovements in Electrical Fluid- Heaters, o
Whichfthe following is a speciiication, i
lltl'y inventionI relates to an Vapparatus which is designed for heating fluids. 1 It consists mythe combination of a heatlng chamber in connection with a reserv'oir,.a circulating tubevflocated' within. the chaber,
. and anjnsulated high resistance'conducting wirefthrouglwhichheat is transmittl to ythe contents of the chamber; and in details .of construction which bemore fully explained bv'freferenceto the Vaccompanying f v.
vdrawings 1n which#- 'The-figureQis acentral vertical Asection of my apparatus.
` "It 1s the objectof my invention to provide an apparatus whereby considerable quanti.-`
i ties of fluidmaybe raised to and maintained 2S at an elevated tem erature.
Inthe drawings may `beimterted into the bottom of the reservvoirA.
',L, have here shown the u per end of the chamber 2 as screwthreade and by means of washers 3 which screw upon this threaded portioriwithinand outside of the bottom of the reservoir :it will be seen that-the chamber may bey detachably secured to the reser- Y voirand aftlghtjointformed therewith.
'hereafter described.
{.I'Exterior to the Walls oi' theehamber 2`is an I insulatin 'material 6, such-as `sheet mica, or
otllierfiu '"tan'ce, which lwill not materially 'interferewi'th the passage of heat through the wails ofthe chamber While at-.the same `time presenting -an eectiveinsulationffor the, 'wires 7 which" are"coiled-` about the exte= n.Off .the ,insulation i6.'v f These Awires are V have shown a reservoirv which `may be l of any desired size, shapevand proportions. vConnected with this reservoir 1s a chamber 2 which is closed at the botp vlt'om and which has an open upperend which 11, and the other end is connected with a similar ring or equivalent conductor 12 at the lower end of the chamber. From this lower ring connection is made with a switch 13, and thence with the line wire 14 whereb the circuit may be completed. The whoie of this portion of the apparatus is inclosed in a ousing or casing 16 which maybe' secured to the chamber by means of a screwf 15 passing through the bottom of the housing and into the bottom ofthe casing 2, or by any equivalent or suitable means.
' The o eration of the apparatus will then be as fo lows: The 'reservoir A being iilled with water or other fluid which it is desired to heat, and an electrical circuit beine established throulgh the resistant coil 7, the heat from the coi chamber 2, and the uidwithin the chamber Iand contiguous to the walls thereof will ble caused to rise by reason of its increase in'temq perature `and expansion; At the same time the cooler liquid from thereservoir A will be caused to flow downwardly through the tube 4 and passing out through the o enings 5 at the bottom ofthe tube, it will e delivered into the exterior art ofthe chamber te take the place .of the uid which is constantly risin mto the reservoir. By this means a circu ation will be established so that the contents of the reservoir will be heated and a constant temperature may be maintained within the reservoir which is thus capableof iupplying a considerable body of heated the amount and temperature depend-l in 'upon the capacity of the heating coil.
vaving thus' escribed my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- V 1.' 'A fluid heating apparatus consisting of a reservoir, a metallic chamber connected 'therewith having an insulating casing, a reosing saidF easing with i elecsistance coil inc will be transmitted through theA thin insulating jacket, and the walls of the IOO trical connections wherebythe temperature ofthe chamber ma be raised and a tube cen- {gfvkedgfgsiiresfand are'coiled sothat' the conl trally disposed wit 'n the chamber, said having` its upper end in open coniniunieeition chen'ibcr is removably clamped in seid opening and a, tight Joint vfornied.
