VAGINAL SYRINGIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application filed April 20J 1906. Serial No. 312,450.
To a/ZZ whom, t 71mg/ concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL O. FosGATE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Vaginal Syringe, of which the following is a specication.
'This invention relates to vaginal syringes, and has for its object to provide a novel Aconstruction thereof whereby the walls of the vagina are held in a spread condition so as to permit access of the injecting fluid to all portions thereof. It is also proposed to provide for spraying the injection liquid and to` enable the effective drainage ofthe vaginal passages.
With these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details may be made, within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of -the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings,-Figure l is a side eleva tion of a syringe embodying the features of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures of the drawing.
The present syringe includes an injection tube l which is open at its forward end and provided at its rear end with a nipple 2 for connection with a rubber pipe or tube 3, there being an external annular flange or The pipe is externally threaded, as at 5, ad-
jacent the front side of the flange or shoulder 4.
Surrounding the tube 4 is a sheath or case 6 which is in the nature of a tube having a closed forward end 7 and provided in its rear end with a threaded passage 8 for engagement with the threaded portion of the tube so as to detachably hold the case and the tube connected. The case is slightly longer than the tube so as to project in front thereof and is provided with two sets of longitudinal slots or openings 9 between which is an annular web 10 to strengthen the case. Upon the in- 'ner wall of the front end of the case is a conical boss or projection ll 'which is centered with respect to the open forward end of the tube l and operates as a spreader to deect the injection liquid through the adjacent slots or openings 9.
When the device is in use the perforate or slotted case or sheath holds the walls of the vagina out of contact with the tube l, and when the injection liquid is forced through the tube it is sprayed out through the forward openings 9 against the walls of the vagina so as to thoroughly medicate and cleanse the same.' Drainage of course takes place backward through the slots or openings 9 in a thoroughly eflicient manner.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed:-
l. A device of the class described, comprising a tubular sheath closed at the front end and provided with two sets of elongated slots, an annular web separating the slots from each other, an induction tube arranged Within the sheath and terminating close to the front end thereof, and a conical deflector arranged within and secured to the closed end of the sheath in alinement with the open end of the tube, said deflector serving to direct the fluid outward through the forward set of slots, while the sheath maintains the parts dilated to permit the rear set of slots to act as discharge passages.
2. Adevice of the character described comprising a tubular sheath having one end open and its other end closed., two sets of longitudinal slots within the sheath, said slots being separated by an annular web, the outer ends of the slots being disposed within depressions extending longitudinally of the sheath, an induction tube extending through the open end of the sheath and having its open end adj acent the closed end of said sheath, and a conical deflector within and upon the closed end of the sheath and in alinement with the induction tube.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
DANIEL O. FOSGATE.
