Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April so, 1907.
Anplication filed October 29, 1904 Serial No. 230,56).
n Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closet-Bowls, of which the following is a. specliication.
My invention relates to improvements in closetbowls of the type provided with a rim outlet and-has for its object the more perfect cleansing ol' the bowl.
A further object is the conservation of the force` of the water at the point where it is .most needed. i t
These and such other objects as may hereafter appear are attained by the devices shown in' the accompanying drawings, in which* Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of my invention. Fig.4 2 is an en*- larged lan 'view of Fio. Lwith theseat down. Fig. 3 is an enlarged tail, partly in section, on the line 3 8 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction` indicated by the arrows; and Fig. 4 is a plan view or a modiiication of my invention,'with a portion broken away.
Like letters of reference indicate the same `.parts in the several figures of the drawing..
. Referring by letter `to the accompanying drawings, A re resents the bowl of a closet,
B the rim pre eably formed to provide a seat-'sup orting shoulder, which .t 1t o. front I with a raised lipC.
D is the seat, cut away 'at E to receive the li C.:
, .PReferring-to Fig. 3:l The raised lip or :flushl the opposite wall of the apron F is the water convenient character.
discliarge opening J, which may be of any The water chamber I is preferably continued around the bowl, as shown beneath the rim at I. With this construction it will be seen that, as soon as the chamber I is substantially illed with water,
, With the preferred form of my invention,
it will be noted that the cleansing jets will rbe d1rected against the upper part of the front .of the bowl from a level which is higher than the'top of the 'main rim. Hence, the lipl7 C and associated parts not only furnish the front of the bowl with protection against overflow at-that point, but afford more effective means for cleansing the bowl at that point.
In the modified construction of Fig. 1l, I
Y have shown the bowl with the lip C extending around the entire circumference of the bowl, in which construction the seat D may, or maynot, be cut away to accommodate the lip CA in which event the top of the lip C will be lush with the seat, while the weight of the seat lwill be supported mainly or wholly by the shoulder or rim B. The advantages of such-construction are obvious.
While I have illustrated two embodiments of my invention, it is evident that, other modifications thereof and variations `therefrom may be made, without departing from the s irit of my invention.
, I c aim: t
1. The combination with a closet bow provided with a seat supporting shoulder and with a flushing rim rising from the inner side of said shoulder, ol a seat adapted to be supported by said shoulder and to extend substantially `[lush with the top of said rim.
2. The combination with a closet bowl provided with a seat supporting shoulder and with a flushing rim rising from the inner side of said shoulder, of a seat arranged to be supported by said shoulder and constructed so as to conform to said rim.
3. The combination with a closet bowl provided with a seat supporting shoulder and shoulder am arranged to extendaround the outer face of said flushing rim.
5. The combination with a closet bowl, provided with a flushing rim of a seat constructed and arranged to extend around the ,outer face oi said flushing rim and means for supporting the under, face of said seat in a plane below the top of said iluslnng run.'
ioo
6. The combination with ay closet bowl provieed with a flushing rim of e seat arranged to extend around the outer face of said flushing rim, said seat being recessed to receive said riin and means for supporting` the under face oi" said seat in a the top of said flushing rim. A, l 7, The combination with a. closet bowl provided with a rim and having a regular, unbroken form in its horizontal dimensions, one portion of which is elevated. above the rest and hs an elevated flushingoutlet' on plane below its interior surface, of a seat formed to accommodate such elevated portion/and means constructed and arranged to support said 'seat with its upper surace substantially ilusll with the upper surface of the elevated portion of the rim.
The combination with a closet bowl provided with a ilusliing' rim Ahaving a regular, unbroken form in its'liorizontal dimensions, one portion of which is elevated above the rest and has mi elevated outlet on its interiorsurface, of a seat adapted to rest 011 said rim withits upper surface substantially iiush with the upper surface of the eleva-ted portion of lthe rim, and being cut away to accommodate such elevatezl portion.
