Description

No. 851,439. I PATENTED APR. 23, 1907.

RECORD CALENDAR. APPLIOATION FILED any-12.5. 1906.
A TTOHNE Y8 m: rvmems PLFEK'S co., WASHINGTON. 0.1:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK HENRY RICE, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
RECORD-CALENDAR.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK HENRY RICE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Record-Calendar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of the invention is'to provide a record calendar, or a calendar adapted to serve as a reminder of transactions to be attended to in the future, and which takes the place of the customary daily journal, the advantage being that in entering any subject requiring attention at a certain time of the month, one entry will carry for all time, whereas in a daily journal twelve entries are required each year for monthly matters.
The invention consists in the novel con struction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved record or reminder calendar in open position; and Fig. 2 is a top edge view thereof.
The calendar A is in the form of a book, and the right-hand leaves B are provided with a depressed or stepped index (J, representing the days of the month, one figure a of which index appears upon each of the said right-hand leaves B, although there may be more leaves in the book than thirty-one if so desired. If so, the remaining leaves may be designated in the index column as desired.
The index C is at the right-hand edge of the series of right-hand leaves B, as is clearly shown. Each right-hand leaf B is provided with an upper panel 10, in which the word Memoranda is printed or otherwise made to appear; and below the upper panel 10 the space on each right-hand or index leaf B is provided with a series of transverse lines or rulings 11', the lines being preferably at equal distances apart.
A left-hand leaf D is provided for each right-hand leaf; and eachleft-hand leaf D has a panel 12 formed at the top, corresponding to the panel 10 on the index leaf B; but the panel 12 is divided into a series of subanels 13 by longitudinal lines 14 extending om top to bottom of the leaf; and in the sub-panels 13 the names of the months are produced in their regular order, reading from Specification of Letters Patent.

its right hand edge. Furthermore, the space below the panel 12 is provided with transverse lines or rulings 15 in horizontal alignment with the lines or rulings 11 on the index leaves B, and thus each left-hand leaf is divided into a series of spaces or squares 16, which spaces are transverse to the page and register with spaces on the opposite page. The leaves D may be termed designating leaves as distinguished from the memoranda or index leaves.
In the operation of the calendar it is opened at the day of the month on which you wish to be reminded of a certain incident or transaction. On the right-hand index or memoranda leaf B, in the lines space thereon, is entered that which is to be attended to, and upon the left-hand or designating leaf D, directly opposite the entry an X, or a crossmark is made in the space or square 16 in the months column designating when the matter needs attention. If monthly, an X is placed under the name of each month; if quarterly, under the name of each of the four months requiring notice, and so on. Each morning the calendar should be opened at the day of the month indicated on the marginal index, and the column under the current month be followed down, and opposite each X in this column will be found the memoranda calling for attention. After attending to each item, the year may be entered in the space with the X.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,-
1. A record or reminder calendar, comprising a series of leaves in book form, the right hand pages being each provided with a column designated by the word memoranda, and being also provided with tabs indicating the days of the month, the left hand pages being provided with vertical columns headed by the'names of the months and transverse columns that extend to the meinoranda column on the right hand pages.
2. A record or reminder calendar, consisting of a series of leaves bound in book form, the right-hand leaves being provided with tabs at their right-hand edges indicatin the days of the month and with a series of lines forming transverse columns, the left-hand leaves being provided with an upper panel sub-divided by series of longitudinal lines extending from top to bottom of the leaves,
the left-hand edge of the leaf in direction of each of said sub-panels containing the name of a month, the right-hand leaves being also rovided with a series of transverse lines, the ines of the two pages registering.
3. A record or reminder calendar constructed of a series of leaves bound in book form, the right-hand leaves being transversely ruled to receive entries and provided at their right-hand edges each with a tab bearing a figure representing a day of a month, which figures collectively constitute an index of said days, the left-hand leaves being provided with longitudinal columns, each headed by the name of a month, said names being consecutively arranged and with 15 transverse rulings crossing said columns, which latter rulings are substantially continuations of the rulings on the right-hand leaves, whereby squares are formed in each month column adapted to have inscribed 20 therein a designation. I
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses FRANK HENRY RICE. Witnesses:
