COMBINED BABY-WALKER AND SWING.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I,-- WILLIAM H. NIE- MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Babyl/Valkers and Swings, of which thefollowing is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved combination baby-walker and swing, and the object is to provide a simple and convenient article of this character which 'may be quickly and readily converted into either a baby-walker or swing.

With the above object in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claims, and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which,

Referring now more particularly to said drawing, 1 indicates the bottom portion or base ofthe baby-walker mounted upon suit able casters 2 and composed of two side-bars connected near their ends by rounds or cross-pieces. Raised from this base-2, are the four standards 3 which converge as illustrated in Fig. 1. Each standard is formed at its upper end with a recess to receive a locking-member 4 to engage and hold the removable top or ring 5 in position thereon. This. ring or top-portion 5 is formed with suitable openings to receive the ends of the standards, in which openings, bushings 6 are fitted. These bushings are shorter in length than the depth of the openings to form interior shoulders 7, over which detents 8 of the locking-members 4 spring when the ring or top-portion is pressed down upon the standards. These lockingmembers are formed of substantially U- shaped pieces of metal, one arm of which is secured to the standard and the other tion or ring.

Attached to the under-side of the top-portion or ring 5 by having one end coiled about the bushings between the flanges 9 and the surface of the ring, are coiled springs 10, the opposite'ends of the springs being extended and formed into loops 11. Connected to these loops by adjustable straps 12, is a seat or support 13 of canvas or other suitable material. This seat or support is thus, yieldingly suspended from the top-portion or ring. Said flexible support or seat is formed with openings 14 through which the legs of the child extend.

The ring or top-portion 5 is formed at equidistant points with four vertical openings 15. Secured to the under side of said ring at each opening 15, is a rope-grip comprising two pieces 16 of spring metal arranged in longitudinal alignment and having their opposing ends extending slightly over the opening 15 and curved to conform thereto, said ends being bent downwardly slightly, and rounded so as not to cut the rope.

When desired for use as a swing, the topportion or ring 5 is removed from the standards, carrying withit the canvas seat or support, and suitable ropes 17 are attached thereto by having their ends inserted in openings 15, the ends of the ropes being knotted as illustrated in Fig. 5. Owing to the peculiar construction and arrangement of the rope-grips, the ropes may be readily drawn through the openings in the ring or top-portion 5 in. one direction, the knots passing the members of the grips. A movement of the ropes in a reverse direction, however, is prevented by said grips.

The ropes may be attached to hook, placed in the door-way or any other convenient place for suspending the ring and its flexible seat, thereby forming a swing.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. A combined baby-walker and swing, comprising a supporting frame having uprights orstandards, a ring-like to means for detachably securing said ring-liiie top to the standards, a seat or support carried by said ring-like top, and means carried by said ring-like top for the attachment of the suspending ropes thereto.

2. A combined baby-walker and swing comprising a supporting frame having standards or uprights, a ring-like top, means for detachably securing said to to the standards, a support or seat of exible material having 0 enings therein to receive the limbs of the cfiild suspended from said ring-like top, and means carried by the ring-like top for the attachment of suspending-ropes thereto.

3. A combined baby-walker and swing comprising a supporting-frame having standards or uprights, spring-detents carried by the upper ends of said standards, a ring-like top having openings to receive the upper ends of said standards and formed with means coacting with said spring-detents to secure said top to the standards, a seat or support carried by the ring-like top, and

1 means carried by the ring-like top for the attachment of suspending ropes thereto.

4. A combined baby-walker and swing comprising a supporting-frame having uprights or standards formed in their upper ends with recesses, spring-members secured in said recesses formed with detents, a ringlike top formed with openings to receive the upper ends of the standards, bushings fitted in said openings forming shoulders, interiorly of the openings to be engaged by the detents and carrying flanges on their outer edges disposed a short distance below the under side of the top, coiled s rings having one end coiled about said ushings between the flanges and the under-side of the ring-like top, a support or seat of flexible material having openings for the limbs of the child, adjustable straps connecting said support or seat with the free ends of the springs, and means carried by the ring-like top for attaching suspending-ropes thereto.

5. A combined baby-walker and swing comprising a base-portion having uprights or standards raised therefrom, a ring-like top, means for detachably connecting said ring-like top to the standards, a support or seat of flexible material having openings for the limbs of the child, means for yieldingly connecting said flexible support to the under side of the ring-like top, and means carried by said ring-like top for the attachment of swinging-ropes thereto.
