MOND, a citizen `ofthe United States, and a resident of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Roller Appliance for Rocking-Chairs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for itsV object to provide means adapted to be readily attached to a rocking-chair of ordinary construction, and thereby transform the rocker into a wheel or invalid chair.
Such objects I accomplish by the means illustrated. in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views, and in which- Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section, of a device embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, partly in section, of the device shown in Fig. 1.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawings, an axle l is mounted upon carryingwheels 2, which are preferably provided with rubber tires 3. A carrying-bar 4 is provided with offset ends 5, having eyes 6, which. are freely journaled upon the axle 1, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The axle 1 bears against the upper edge of the rockers, and the carryingbar 4 bears against the lower edge or tread of the rockers and is preferably arranged in advance of the axle when the device is in use, so as to form a fulcrum with the axle, thereby enabling the body of the rocker to be read ily raised from the ground and supported on the carrying-wheels 2, so as to enable the chair, with the person seated therein, to be moved about at will. The offset ends 5 of the carrying-bar 4 are preferably made longer than the width of the rockers in ordinary use, so that when the carrying-bar 4 is drawn forward of the axle the axle and carrying-bar iit snugly on rockers of different size of ordinary construction.
The carrying-bar and axle are held in place on the rockers by means of a tie-rod 8, having its upper end pivotally connected with the seat of the chair in any suitable manner, preferably by means of an eye 9, formed on the end of the rod 8, which engages an eye 10, attached to the seat of the chair. The opposite end 0f the rod S is provided with a hook 1l, adapted to detachably engage the carrying-bar 4, so as to hold the carrying device firmly on the chair when in use or enable such device to be readily detached therefrom when desired. `Whenthe carrying device is not in use, the end of the tie-rod 8 may be supported on a hook 11, attached to the rear portion of the seat of the chair, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The'combination of arocking-chair, and a carrying device comprising an axle mounted upon carrying-wheels, a swinging carrying-bar adapted to bear against the lower edge ofthe rockers, and means `for holding the carrying-bar in advance of the axle, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of a rocking-chair, and a carrying device comprising an axle mounted upon carrying-wheels having resilient tires, a swinging carrying-bar loosely mounted on said axle and adapted to bear against the lower edge of the rockers in advance of the axle, and a tie-rod connected with said carrying bar and chair, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination with a rocking-chair and a carrying device comprising an axle mounted upon carrymg-wheels, a swinging carrying-bar mounted on said axle adapted to bear against the lower edge of the rockers of.
said chair in advance of the axle, and a tierod detachably connecting said carrying device and chair, substantially as shown and described.
4. rFhe combination of a rocking-chair, a carrying device having a transverse axle mounted upon carrying-wheels, a yoke com-` prising a transverse bar having offset ends rotatably mounted on said axle, and a tierod connected with said yoke and chair.
