GEORGE H, WAGNER AND SIGNOR S. HERNE, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
TOILET ARTICLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 16, 1907.
T0 all lub/071e t may concern.'
Be it known that we, GEORGE H. WAGNER and SIGNOR S. HERNE, citizens ofthe United States of America, and residents of Spring- Held, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Inc. rovements in Toilet Articles,
of which the fo lowing is a full, clear, and exact description. y
This invention relates to an improved article for toilet use, and is especially designed to constitute a novel and convenient object for persons having occasion to travel frequently.
The invention consists in a combined hairbrtsh, mirror, and comb having constructions and arrangements or dispositions substantially as hereinafter described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and as set forth 'in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an under side face view of the article with portions shown in section on a plane intermediate between the inner and outer faces of the brush-body. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view as taken on the line 2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken online 3 3, Fig. 1, the mirror being shown as partially drawn out from the pocket therefor in the brush-body.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the views.
The article will be now described precisely as we have constructed the same, it being stated at this time that departures and minor changes from these constructions'may be made without departing from the present invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof.
In the drawings, A represents a. brushfrane comprising a body a, provided with bristles Z; and a handle extension d. The said frame is composed of complemental sections 10 10, both having at their inner sides shallow recesses 12 12 and 13 13, conducing to form when the said sections 10 10 are adjoined and. united edgewise-opening pockets 15 and 16, the one for the reception of a mirrorf and the other for a comb g. One of the said sections 10 has in its edge wall at one end of its recess 12 a shoulder h and at its portion near, the junction of thev body with' a portion thereof anchored, as by a rivet 18, to a wall or portion ofthe recessed section.
The mirror f is adapted to be disposed within and outwardly movable from the pocket produced within the recessed sections of the brush-frame, it being understood that the aforesaid complemental sections are adjoined and cemented together, the seam-line thereof being indicated at y', particularly in Fig. 2. The mirror is usually conformable to the general shape of the pocket 15 therefor', of approximately elliptical shape, and it has at its outer end a shoulder m to acquire an engagement with the first-named shoulder 71, in the end wall of the edgewise-.opening pocket in the brush-body, as seen in full lines 1n Fig. 1, and the mirror has in its opposite end a shouldered notch n to be brought into engagement when the mirror is fully forced endwise into the pocket with the nose 17 of said retaining-spring.
rThe mirror is provided with a thumb-lip or catch-piece 20 at its end at which the shoulder a is provided, by means of which when the mirror is to be `Withdrawn it may be outwardly forced by being gripped bek tween the thumb and finger and swung from its upper or opposite end as a fulcrum, and the mirror after having been swung by its end which is toward the brush-handle in a slight degree to be disengaged from the restraining tension of the spring may be also readily moved to disengagement from the catch-shoulder 7L and taken bodily out from within the pocket 15.
rihe comb g is pivoted at o to the extremity of the handle and within the pocket 16 therein and may be reversely turned, as represented by the dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2, to be utilized for the purpose for which it is intended. The comb is provided at its free end with a catch-lip 25, and adjacent its point of pivotal connection with a stopshoulder 26, so that when outwardly swung its position will be limited for the maintenance of the comb in alinemcnt with the pocket-provided handle.
The body from which the frame A is produced may be composed of the complemental sections of the forms described which are constituted by celluloid, composition, or other material having fitness to the purpose,
IOO
body;` provided with an edgewise-opening' pocket, a mirror disposed within and outwardly movable from said pocket, and a" spring-catch with which said body is provided, for engaging and detachably retaining the mirror within the said pocket.
In an article of the character described, a brush-body having an edgewise-opening pocket, the wall of which at its one end is provided with a shoulder, and having therewithin, at its other end portion a retainingspring, and a mirror disposed within, and outwardly movable from said pocket having at opposite ends shoulders, one thereof to acquire an engagement with the first-named shoulder and the other to be detachably engaged by the said retaining-spring.
3. In an article of the character described, a brush-body provided with a handle eXtension and constructed with edgewise-opening pockets both in the body and the handle eX- tension, a mirror disposed within and outwardly movable from the pocket in the body and means for detachably retaining the mirror within its said pocket, and a comb endwise pivoted to the handle extension and adapted to be disposed within said pocket in the handle, and to be outwardly swung therefrom.
4. In an article of the character described,
a brush-frame, comprising a body and a hanto a wall of the section, and said complemental sections being adjoined and cemented together, a mirror disposed within and outwardly movable from the pocketv produced within the recessed lsections having shoulders at opposite ends thereof, one adapted to acquire an engagement with the lirst-named shoulder and the other to be detachably engaged by the nose of said spring, and a comb' pivoted within the pocket produced within the handle and adapted to be swung outwardly therefrom.
Signed by us at Springfield, Massachusetts, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
