UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VAULT-LIGHT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Original application filed September 21, 1 905, Serial No. 2 79.5 23. Divided and this application filed July 2, 1906 $eria1 No. 324.443.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN MOGUIGAN and ARTHUR PRIDDLE, citizens of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vault-Lights; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in vault-light constructions for use in skylights, sidewalks, vaults, and other structures; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
This invention is a division of that shown and described in our application for Letters Patent of the United States, Serial No. 279,523, filed September 21, 1905, and al lowed February 12, 1906.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a vault-light construction embodying our improvements. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the interlocking bars, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the same.
In carrying out our invention we provide two intersecting series of metallic bars 18 19, which have interlocking connections with each other and are adapted to form openings for the reception of and to also support the glasses 8. The longitudinal bars 18 are T- shaped in cross-section, with their broadened heads uppermost. The transverse bars 19 are also T-shaped in cross-section, but are inverted, so that their broadened heads are on their under sides. The flanges 20 of the bars 19 are cut at suitable points and for suitable distances from their webs 1 and downturned and offset, as at 21, to form openings for the reception of the heads of the longitudinal bars 18, the said offset portions 21 of the lower heads of said bars 19 bearing under and engaging the opposite sides of the heads of the bar 18, while the webs 1 at the points in the bars 19 corresponding with the openings through which the bars 18 extend bear on the heads of said bars 18, as shown. The vertical webs 1 of the bars 19 are cut perpendicularly at suitable intervals to form lips 22, which are alternately bent in reverse directions to become embedded in the cement grouting which is placed on the said bars 18 19 between and around the edges of the glasses 8.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without re quiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A vault-light construction comprising reversely-arranged T-bars, one on the other at an angle thereto, and with their heads in the same horizontal plane, the head of one of said bars being offset and partly separated from its web to form an opening for the reception of the head of the other bar, substantially as described.
2. A vault-light construction comprising reversely-arranged T-bars, one on the other at an angle thereto, and with their heads in the same horizontal plane, the head of one of said bars being offset and partly separated from its web to form an opening for the reception of the head of the other bar, and its web being provided with oppositely-extending lips, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN MOGUIGAN. ARTHUR PRIDDLE. Witnesses:
