GLASS-CUTTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed June 9, 1906. Serial No. 321,011.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NILs A. LYBEOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kearney, in the county of Buffalo and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Glass Cutting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to glass-cutting deinvention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a glass-cutting device, showing one form of embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing another form of embodiment of the invention.
Referring to the drawings, and particularly to Fig. 1, 1' designates a base-plate, preferably of the form shown and adapted for attachment to a table or other support by means of screws or like fastening members, which may be entered through openings or perforations 2, provided in the plate, on which there is fixed a vertically-uprising guide member 3, having a longitudinal guide opening or slot 4, there being disposed at a point in advance and suitably remote from the guide 3 a pair of spaced bearings 5, in which are rotatably mounted glass-cutting elements or diamonds 6, the arrangement being such that the diamonds are maintained in spaced relation, but in accurate alinement with each other. Pivoted at its rear end, as at 7, between bearing-ears 8 on the plate is an adjustable member or lever 9, disposed for movement between its ends in the guide- In practice the bottle-neck or other tubular glass element to be acted upon is seated on the cutting elements 6, after which the adjustable member 9 is moved downward until the cutting member 12 comes into contact with the work, after which the latter is rotated, thus causing the cooperating members 6 and 12 to cut the glass and in the instance of bottles sever the capped end of the neck from the remainder thereof. It will be understood that during the cutting operation the member 9 may be manipulated for pressing the cutting element 12 gradually to its Work, and, further, that owing to the cutting element 12 being sustained for movement with the member 9 the device may be conveniently adjusted for tubes of varying sizes.

the cutting elements 6 are journaled in bearings 5, fixed on the lower portion of an open substantially rectangular base-frame 13, in
the upper portion or bar of which there is threaded an adjustable member or screw 14, provided at its outer end with a hand-piece 15 and having its inner end swiveled, as at 16, in an adjustable member or bar 17, slidably disposed within the frame and provided with a bearing 18, in which the cutting ele ment 12 is j ournaled, it being noted that in operation the tube to be cut is disposed on the members 6 and the member 17 thereafter moved downward through the medium of the screw 14 for pressing the cutting element 12 to its work, as in the instance of the device above described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is v In a device of the class described, a baseplate and a vertically-movable lever pivotally connected therewith, a pair of spaced bearings fixed on one of the parts, glass-cut-- ting members journaled in said bearings, a glasscutting member carried by the other of said parts and adapted for cooperation with the firstnanied members, and means for guiding the lever in its movements.
