- ATTACHING-C-PILUG, AND WALL-RECEP'I'AOLE, .1.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES J .HARTLEY and FRANK C. DE REAMER, citizens of the United States, residim at Schenectady, county of Schenectady, tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachin -Plugs and Wall- Receptacles, of which theollowing is a specification.
This invention relatesto detachable couplings for electric conductors; and its object is to provide an attaching-plug andia flush wall or floor receptacle having certain features of novelty which will be described in detail and'particularly pdinted out in the claims.
- The plug comprises an outer section or bodyhaving a central core and a chamber in one end to receive a head carrying two metallic pins which have binding-screws located inside said chamber. The receptacle comprises a face-plate having two apertures to receive the pins and a base secured to the face-plate and contain'ing't wo pocketsin line In each pocket is a metallic socket to receive a pin, 'rovided with a spring-contact connected wit a bind- In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a central section of the plug and receptacle.
the head of the plu Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the base wit the face-plate removed.
The bod 1 of the plug is of any suitable.

communicates at one end with a chamber 3, into the 0 en end of which is screwed a head 4, also of hard rubber or the like. Two metallic pins 5 have shanks which are inserted throu h holes in the head, being preferably ded with collars 6, countersunk into the outer surface of said head. The inner ends of the shanks are flush with the inner surface of the head and are drilled andtapped to receive the screws 7, which secure to'them the metallic lates 8, carrying. the bindingscrews 9. T e two pins are preferablv located :Rfdiametrically' opposite points in the head, and between them is a circular barrier The pins are split to give them resiliency l Specification of Letters Batent.

preferably of metal and provided with two apertures spaced to receive the two pins and provided with bushings 11, of hard rubber or the like. sulating material, is secured to the back of the face-plate by' fnieans of screws 13, which ehter tappedholes in two metallic plates 14, which in turn are fastened to the base by long screws 15, assing through said base and tapped into t e plates 14, said plates be ing let in flush with the outer surface of the base.
Two pockets 16 are formed in the base in line wit the two apertures in the. face-plate.
11 each pocket is a metallic socket 17, adapted to receive the end of a plug. A slot is cut in the Wall of each socket on one side to perto project through it into t e path 0 a contact with said pm when it is inserted.
A base 12, of porcelain or other in- The tongue has .a flange which is clamped beneath the socket by the screw 19, which fastens the latter in its place in the ocket. A strip 20 is also clamped under the ead 'of this'screw and extends across .to a point under a shallow recess 21, formed in the top of the base. In this recess is ametallic piece 22, carrying a binding-screw 23.; A screw 24 connects the strip 20 with the 1806 22. From one end of the recess a ho e 25 passes to the bottom of the base to permit one of the line conductors to be brought in and secured by the binding-screw 23. By :means of the piece 22, the'screw 24, the strip 20,, and the screw 19 this line conductor is pl ced in electrical. connection with the socket 17 and the tongue 18. When the two pins are in place in their sockets, the two-line conductors will be connected with the two branch conductors leading into the lug..
By taking out the screws 13 the acelate can be removed when it is desired to ave access to the terminals of the line conductors.
Similarly, by unscrewin the plug from the head the terminals of 't e branch construetors are. rendered accessible. 1
